As the threat to marriage equality rises, a hate group comes under scrutiny

MassResistance equates homosexuality with pedophilia and calls Obergefell “illegimate”. In February, North Dakota became the latest of at least nine states that have introduced legislation petitioning the Supreme Court to overturn Obergefell v. Hodges, the landmark decision granting marriage equality across the United States. Legislation in at least five of those states is nearly identical, the result of an orchestrated campaign by MassResistance, an anti-LGBTQ+ organization designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Massachusetts, where the group is based, was the first state to recognize same-sex marriage, in 2004. The North Dakota measure, which is non-binding and would have no legal sway over the Supreme Court, states that the Legislature “rejects” the 2015 Obergefell ruling and urges the high court “to overturn the decision and leave unaddressed the natural definition of marriage as a union between one man, a biological male, and one woman, a biological female.” Nearly identical resolutions to reverse Obergefell have been introduced in Idaho, Michigan, Montana, and South Dakota. The hate group isn’t making any secret of their role in the anti-marriage equality campaign. “MassResistance has drafted text for state legislature resolutions that call on the U.S. Supreme Court to reverse its infamous and illegitimate Obergefell ruling,” the group announces on its website, boasting, “More states to come!” The organization has a long history attacking LGBTQ+ rights since it coalesced around the marriage equality fight in the early 2000s. Founder Brian Camenker has equated homosexuality with bestiality and polygamy; denied gay men died in the Holocaust; denounced Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for declaring Pride Month at the State Department; claimed crime against gay people is caused by “revulsion”;  promoted conversion therapy; claimed the FBI and CIA are under queer control; and asserted that there are few elite gay athletes because “homosexual lifestyle.”

Das Bundesamt für Familie und zivilgesellschaftliche Aufgaben hatte einen Zuwendungsbescheid für das Förderprogramm Demokratie Leben nach Salzwedel geschickt. Doch das Geld wird nicht ankommen. Die CDU spricht von „fragwürdigen Organisationen“, die damit gefördert würden und hat die Mittel gemeinsam mit Stimmen der AfD und Freien Fraktion abgelehnt.

Drei Euro Sachschaden – Queer­feindliche AfD-Plakate zerstört: 600 Euro Geldstrafe – #DankeLisa

Die bekannte Klimaaktivistin Lisa Poettinger wurde am Donnerstag vom Amtsgericht München zu einer Geldstrafe von 600 Euro verurteilt, weil sie vor zwei Jahren drei widerwärtige Hetz-Plakate der AfD abgerissen hatte. Im Stil der NSDAP mobilisierte die AfD vor zwei Jahren gegen eine Drag-Lesung in der Münchner Stadtbibliothek. “Hände weg von unseren Kindern!” und “Genderpropaganda verbieten!”, hieß es auf einem im gesamten Stadtgebiet plakatierten Poster, das einen queeren Menschen als Gefahr für Kinder darstellte. Für die rechtsextreme Partei hatte die widerwärtige Hetze keine Konsequenzen. Die Stadt ließ die Plakate hängen, die Münchner Staatsanwaltschaft sah trotz mehrerer Anzeigen von der Einleitung eines Ermittlungsverfahrens wegen Volks­verhetzung ab (queer.de berichtete). Angeklagt wurde stattdessen die bekannte Klimaaktivistin Lisa Poettinger, weil sie im Juni 2023 drei dieser AfD-Plakate abgerissen hatte. Am Donnerstag kam es vor dem Amtsgericht München zum Prozess. Obwohl der Richter zunächst eine Einstellung des Verfahrens gegen Auflagen vorgeschlagen hatte, lehnte die Staatsanwaltschaft dies ab. Poettinger wurde schließlich wegen Sachbeschädigung zu einer vergleichsweise milden Geldstrafe von 600 Euro (20 Tagessätze zu je 30 Euro) verurteilt. Damit gilt die 28-jährige Lehramtsstudentin nicht als vorbestraft. Sie habe die AfD-Poster zerstört, um queere Menschen zu schützen, sagte Poettinger vor Gericht. “Ich habe mich damals sehr über diese Plakate aufgeregt und sie heruntergerissen”, wird die Klimaaktivistin von der Münchner Tageszeitung “tz” zitiert. “Hier wurden in nationalsozialistischer Bildsprache trans Menschen als gefährlich für Kinder dargestellt. Dabei steigen queerfeindliche Verbrechen immer mehr an. Wie konnte die Stadt München das hängenlassen?” (…) Der entstandene Sachschaden betrug laut Staatsanwaltschaft lediglich drei Euro. Die AfD verzichtete auf ein Nachplakatieren und stellte selbst keinen Strafantrag. Poettinger wurde jedoch beim Abreißen der Plakate von Polizist*innen beobachtet und angezeigt. Für Lisa Poettinger hatte die Anklage gravierende Konsequenzen: Mit Verweis auch auf dieses Verfahren entschied das bayerische Kultusministerium im Februar, dass die Klimaaktivistin ihr Referendariat als Lehrerin nicht antreten darf. Die 28-Jährige wehrt sich nicht nur gegen das ausgesprochene Ausbildungsverbot, sondern erwägt auch zusammen mit ihrer Anwältin, gegen das Urteil des Amtsgerichts Berufung einzulegen.

Senator Mark Kelly said he was getting rid of his Tesla Model S after billionaire Elon Musk called the senator a “traitor” on his social media platform X for visiting Ukraine just days after the U.S. paused military aid to Kyiv. “I’m here in Washington driving to work for the last time in my Tesla,” Kelly, a Democrat from Arizona, said in a video posted on X on March 14. “When I bought this thing, I didn’t think it was going to become a political issue. Every time I get in this car in the last 60 days or so, it reminds me of just how much damage Elon Musk and Donald Trump is doing to our country,” he said in the video. Musk, CEO of Tesla, owner of SpaceX, and now head of the U.S. President Donald Trump’s new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), called Kelly a “traitor” on X on March 10 in a thread of the senator’s trip to Ukraine, which included visits with officials and embassy staff, as well as nurses, volunteers, and soldiers. Kelly, a former Navy pilot and astronaut who used to work with Musk’s SpaceX, swiftly replied, criticizing Musk’s stance. “Traitor? Elon, if you don’t understand that defending freedom is a basic tenet of what makes America great and keeps us safe, maybe you should leave it to those of us who do,” he wrote on March 10. Along with his video saying that he was ditching his Tesla on March 14, Kelly wrote, “I bought a Tesla because it was fast like a rocket ship. But now every time I drive it, I feel like a rolling billboard for a man dismantling our government and hurting people. So Tesla, you’re fired!”

Spotify takes down Andrew Tate ‘pimping’ podcast after complaints

Misogynist influencer’s content reportedly sparked objections from staff as well as a petition signed by 92,000. Spotify has removed an Andrew Tate podcast after complaints from users including an online petition signed by more than 92,000 people. The “degree course” by the misogynist influencer titled “pimping hoes” was deemed to be in breach of the company’s rules and removed. Several podcasts have been removed from the service this week, including the “pimping hoes” course. The takedowns were first reported by the tech news site 404 Media, which alleged that some Spotify employees had complained about Tate content being available. “Pretty vile that we’re hosting Andrew Tate’s content,” wrote one employee on an internal messaging platform, according to 404 Media. A Spotify spokesperson said: “The content in question was removed because it violated our policies, not because of employee discussion.” One Spotify user, commenting on the podcast before it was taken down, wrote: “These courses actively teach men how to manipulate, control and profit from the exploitation of women.” The user added that the course breached Spotify’s own terms of use.

Some Spotify employees are not happy that the audio streaming giant was, until this week, hosting and profiting from a course about “pimping hoes” by Andrew Tate, according to internal Spotify communications viewed by 404 Media.  “Pretty vile that we’re hosting Andrew Tate’s content,” one Spotify employee said in a company Slack channel called #ethics-club, and linked to a Linkedin post that criticized Spotify for hosting the course.  “Happy Women’s History Month, everybody!” another employee said, adding a sweating smiling emoji.  Tate is an infamous manosphere influencer known for promoting misogyny and anti-semitic conspiracy theories and who was previously charged for human trafficking and rape. Since those Slack messages were posted, Spotify appears to have removed the “pimping hoes” class from its platform. Another course titled “How to get girls FAST AND EASY by Andrew Tate (PHD Course),” is still hosted on Spotify, and has over 70 comments from users calling for its removal.  Before it was removed, the “pimping hoes” course had 276 comments on Spotify that unanimously called on the company to remove it.

AfD-Abgeordneter bei Mercedes: Mitarbeiter beschweren sich

Der AfD-Landtagsabgeordnete Miguel Klauß erlangte mit einem „Abschiebekalender“ zweifelhafte Bekanntheit. Innerhalb seiner Partei gilt er als Hardliner. Neben seinem Mandat ist er bei Mercedes in Sindelfingen als Einkäufer beschäftigt. Unter den Mitarbeitern regt sich Widerstand: Sein Verhalten passe nicht zu den Leitlinien des Unternehmens. Der schwäbische Autohersteller Mercedes positioniert sich seit Jahren als besonders umweltbewusstes Unternehmen: „Nachhaltigkeit und Klimaschutz bilden einen wesentlichen Eckpfeiler unserer Unternehmensstrategie“, schreibt der Konzern auf seiner Webseite. Die gesamte Fahrzeugflotte soll bis 2039 CO2-neutral werden. Diese Leitlinie wird aber offensichtlich nicht von allen Mitarbeitenden mitgetragen. Einer von ihnen ist Miguel Klauß aus dem baden-württembergischen Nagold. Klauß ist bei Mercedes im Aluminiumeinkauf tätig, in Teilzeit. Neben seiner Tätigkeit beim Autobauer bekleidet er ein politisches Mandat, er ist Landtagsabgeordneter und Teil der AfD-Fraktion in Baden-Württemberg. Klauß macht kein Geheimnis aus seiner Haltung. So sagt er öffentlich: „Manager, die linker grüner Politik hinterherlaufen und überrascht sind von den Konsequenzen, sind Totalversager.“ Umweltfreundliche Baumaßnahmen, etwa Fassadendämmung oder Solaranlagen, nennt er „Klimawahn“. (…) Im Oktober vergangenen Jahres traf sich Klauß mit Vertretern des Vereins „Zentrum – Die alternative Gewerkschaft e.V.“ im Landtag. Die angebliche Gewerkschaft, bei der Klauß nach eigenen Angaben Mitglied sei, stand bis 2022 noch auf der Unvereinbarkeitsliste der AfD. In einem Post auf der Plattform Instagram schreibt er zum Besuch, der Verein stelle sich gegen das Verbrenner-Aus. In Gesprächen am Arbeitsplatz habe sich Klauß laut des Mitarbeitenden teils klimawandelleugnerisch geäußert oder gegen Elektrofahrzeuge gewettert. Aufgefallen sei er zudem mit entsprechenden Kommentaren im internen Kommunikationstool. Unter einem Eintrag im Intranet schießt Klauß etwa gegen die E-Auto-Pläne bei Mercedes: Die Strategie hätte keinen Mehrwert, „außer dass mir manche Spinner einreden mit einem E-Auto würde ich es verhindern, dass es in Zukunft Hochwasser in Bangladesch gibt“. Weiterhin schreibt er „CO2-Steuer ist schon Abzocke genug (…) CORRECTIV liegt eine formelle Beschwerde gegen Klauß aus dem internen Whistleblowing-Tool von Mercedes vor. Ein Mitarbeitender schreibt darin, Klauß äußere sich in der Öffentlichkeit und in sozialen Medien regelmäßig diskriminierend gegen Minderheiten.
