Alfred Landecker Foundation gave 250 million euros to cause – Family firm with Nazi past funds effort to use AI to detect online anti-Semitism

According to creators of ‘Decoding anti-Semitism,’ a collaborative approach is required to combat anti-Semitism on the Internet. But experts wonder: Is the technology there yet? As social media platforms take steps to block Holocaust denial, an interdisciplinary project is harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) in the battle against online anti-Semitism. “Decoding anti-Semitism” is a collaboration between King’s College London and the Technical University of Berlin’s Center for Research on anti-Semitism. The project is funded by the Alfred Landecker Foundation, which is contributing 250 million euros over 10 years. (…) The newly minted Landecker Foundation’s central mission is to share the history of the Holocaust and fight anti-Semitism, particularly on the Internet. Through the foundation’s “Decoding anti-Semitism” project, an open-source detection tool is being created to align with social media platforms, said lead designer David Allington. (…) “Decoding anti-Semitism” is hardly the first effort to fight hate speech online. In the past few years, dozens of foundations and organizations have attempted to address increases in hate speech against Jews and other groups. “Whatever these organizations are doing, it isn’t working,” said Andreas Eberhardt, founding director and CEO of the Alfred Landecker Foundation. “That is why we have adopted such a collaborative approach and over the coming weeks, months and years the partnership will see discourse analysts, computational linguists and historians come together, combining their expertise for one common goal,” said Eberhardt in an interview with The Times of Israel.

#Querdenken: Wenn Ärzte Muffensausen kriegen – #corona #covidioten #gefaelligkeitsattest

An explosion shook the largely deserted streets of downtown Nashville early Christmas morning, shattering windows, damaging buildings and wounding three people. Authorities said they believed the blast was intentional. Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake said police were responding to a report of shots fired when they encountered a recreational vehicle blaring a recording that said a potential bomb was to detonate in 15 minutes. Police evacuated nearby buildings and called in the bomb squad. “Shortly after that, the RV exploded,” Drake said at a midday news conference. Surveillance video published on a Twitter account Friday that appeared to be recorded from across the street captured an audio recording that included the warning, “if you can hear this message, evacuate now.” The blast was captured on the surveillance video seconds later; A warning to ‘evacuate now’ and then an explosion in Nashville on Christmas Day. A recording from a recreational vehicle emitted a chilling warning minutes before it all exploded, rocking downtown Nashville at dawn on Christmas Day and lightly injuring three people in what police described as an “intentional act.” “This area must be evacuated now. This area must be evacuated now. If you can hear this message, evacuate now. If you can hear this message, evacuate now” went the recording for several minutes, broadcast later on NewsChannel5, Nashville. Police described the vehicle, parked in the heart of Tennessee’s capital city at 6 a.m. CST (1200 GMT) on Friday, as an RV, a recreational vehicle of a type that could range from a motor home to a camper trailer. Nashville Police Chief John Drake said the announcement warned the “bomb would explode in 15 minutes.” About the same time, police received an emergency call of “shots fired” in the downtown tourist area, said Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron. After arriving, they called in the bomb squad, which was on its way when the explosion occurred. The blast ravaged the heart of the city, considered the capital of U.S. country music. It destroyed several other vehicles and severely damaged several buildings, launching black smoke into the sky that could be seen for miles.

Trolls and social media platforms face huge fines in Australia for failing to remove abuse material

Australian internet service providers, social media companies and other online platforms will need to remove severely harmful, abusive or bullying content within 24 hours or risk being blocked and fined $555,000 under the federal government’s proposed online safety legislation. Currently, takedown notices for image-based abuse, cyber-abuse, cyberbullying, and seriously harmful online content needs to be actioned within 48 hours. Under the Coalition’s bill, if a website or app ignores takedown notices for content such as child sexual abuse material, the e-safety commissioner will require search engines and app stores to block access to those services. Websites and social media platforms will face fines of up to $555,000 for ignoring a direction to remove the trolling material, while individuals will face fines up to $111,000. These are sanctions already in place for cyberbullying a child, but will be extended to apply to adults.
A rapid website-blocking power has been added to allow the commissioner to respond to online crisis events such as the Christchurch terrorist attacks, by requesting internet service providers block access to terrorist and extremely violent content for a limited time period. As well as substantial new measures to protect adults online, the draft legislation also adds protections for children, expanding the cyberbullying scheme to enable removal of material from online games, websites, messaging and hosting services – rather than just social media. Under strengthened information-gathering powers, the e-safety commissioner would be able to unmask the identities behind anonymous or fake accounts responsible for online abuse or exchanging illegal content. An updated online content scheme would require the industry to do more to keep users safe online through updated industry codes. The federal communications and cyber safety minister, Paul Fletcher, said “these are substantial reforms”. “The internet has brought great social, educational and economic benefits,” he said in a statement on Wednesday. “But just as a small proportion of human interactions go wrong offline, so too are there risks online. By establishing proper protections to help keep Australians safe online, we can in turn help Australians to realise the substantial benefits that come from using the internet.”
