‘Unfair’ opened on October 10 and closed two days later after swastika motifs and male staff in uniforms at Osaka venue proved unpopular online. Not the first time fascist regime’s props used by Japan’s businesses; simple ‘ignorance’ of the Holocaust or ‘bad education’ blamed by some, but not all. A host bar in Japan that dressed its male staff in Nazi uniforms and used the swastika symbol as its motif, down to the labels on champagne bottles handsome young men poured for their female clients, recently closed less than 48 hours after it opened due to an outcry on social media. And while the closure of the Osaka bar – named “Unfair” – and the removal of its website from the internet has been applauded, questions are being asked as to how the venue’s owners thought mimicking one of the most murderous regimes in history would be a selling point. This is not, after all, the first time that the architects of World War II and the masterminds of the Holocaust have been used as props for Japanese businesses. “It’s simply a matter of ignorance,” said Akio Yoshida, director of the Holocaust Education Centre, near the city of Hiroshima. “Far too many people in Japan simply do not know what happened in Europe in the last war, they don’t know that millions of people were persecuted and murdered.” “I imagine they thought the uniforms would just catch the attention of potential clients and that it would be different or unusual. The hosts in the pictures, I am sure, were simply doing as they were told and didn’t know any better about wearing a Nazi uniform…”

Wie die Polizei am Montag mitteilte, fotografierten sie sich dabei gegenseitig mit dem Handy. Die Polizei wurde den Angaben zufolge von Zeugen auf den Vorfall aufmerksam gemacht. Ein 50 und ein 52 Jahre alter Besucher aus Finnland gaben am Sonntag demnach schließlich zu, den Hitlergruß gezeigt und dies als Scherz gemeint zu haben. Ein dritter Mann, der dabei war, habe die beiden anderen fotografiert, hieß es.

Southlake school leader tells teachers to balance Holocaust books with ‘opposing’ views

Teachers in the Carroll school district say they fear being punished for stocking classrooms with books dealing with racism, slavery and now the Holocaust. Following an administrator’s comments, teachers in Southlake, Texas, wondered if they would have to remove “Number the Stars” by Lois Lowry or other historical novels that tell the story of the Holocaust from the perspective of victims. A top administrator with the Carroll Independent School District in Southlake advised teachers last week that if they have a book about the Holocaust in their classroom, they should also offer students access to a book from an “opposing” perspective, according to an audio recording obtained by NBC News. Gina Peddy, the Carroll school district’s executive director of curriculum and instruction, made the comment Friday afternoon during a training session on which books teachers can have in classroom libraries. The training came four days after the Carroll school board, responding to a parent’s complaint, voted to reprimand a fourth grade teacher who had kept an anti-racism book in her classroom.
A Carroll staff member secretly recorded the Friday training and shared the audio with NBC News. “Just try to remember the concepts of [House Bill] 3979,” Peddy said in the recording, referring to a new Texas law that requires teachers to present multiple perspectives when discussing “widely debated and currently controversial” issues. “And make sure that if you have a book on the Holocaust,” Peddy continued, “that you have one that has an opposing, that has other perspectives.” “How do you oppose the Holocaust?” one teacher said in response. “Believe me,” Peddy said. “That’s come up.”

But, perhaps inevitably, the idea has suffered from a backlash and bar management appears to have attempted to cull any trace of it from online host sites. Unfair is located in Minami, Osaka’s shopping, dining and nightlife centre. Unfair’s listing was posted on host sites Star Guys and Host x Host, and included photos of the hosts in full Nazi outfits and a video of good-looking staff posing and acting up to the camera. One listing read: “Get intoxicated with this new style host club!” Host bars, where attractive young men in uniform entertain paying customers, are popular. Upon entering the club, the client receives a “menu” with photos of the “hosts,” from which they choose someone, Polish media reported. A Twitter user, Mike Dezaki, also shared images of what he said was the inside of the establishment. The pictures showed what appears to be a young staff member clutching several swastika-emblazoned champagne bottles with an even larger symbol fixed to the wall behind him.

The name of the bar is Unfair, and its tagline is, “Life is a bet.” Reddit spotted a truck driving through Osaka emblazoned with the club’s name and…a swastika, and I’m guessing it was driving through the Minami entertainment district where Unfair is located. Es gibt Trottel und es gibt intelligente Menschen. Natürlich etliche Zwischenstufen. Zu den intelligenten Menschen habe ich mal den Chemnitzer Künstler und Hemdendesigner Gregor Torsten Kozik gezählt. Vor drei Jahren musste ich dann eine andere Erfahrung machen. Obwohl er mit einer dunkelhäutigen Venezolanerin verheiratet war (dass sie gestorben ist, habe ich erst später erfahren), hat er sich nach Rechtsaußen begeben. Pegida und Pro Chemnitz, vom sächsischen Verfassungsschutz als rechtsextrem eingeordnet, gehören zu seinen politischen Favoriten. Noch etwas mehr überrascht war ich heute am Morgen, als ich von Prof. Ines Bruhn auf Facebook einen Post sah, den ich nicht glauben konnte. Ich trank erst mal noch einen Kaffee, schaute noch einmal hin. Tatsächlich. Sie postet ein Bild aus dem NS-Regime, eine Frau mit dem Schild um den Hals „Ich bin aus der Volksgemeinschaft ausgestoßen“, auf einem öffentlichen Platz an den Pranger gestellt. „Für alle, die 3G, 2G oder 1G gut finden“, schreibt Bruhn dazu. Volksgemeinschaft. Aha. Bruhn ist offenbar aktive Impfverweigerin und fühlt sich deshalb aus der „Volksgemeinschaft“ ausgestoßen. (…) Wie widerlich ich diese Propaganda finde. Da es Widerspruch gegen ihre Entgleisung gab, hat sie das originale Foto durch ein Clownsbild ausgetauscht. Nun versteht keiner mehr, was denn die Kommentare eigentlich meinen. Und weil ich ihr den NS-Sprachgebrauch der „Volksgemeinschaft“ vorwerfe, antwortet sie, dass ja Politiker von der „Endlösung“ gegenüber Ungeimpften sprechen würden. Dieser Fake gegenüber dem CDU-Politiker Erwin Rüddel wurde schon lange widerlegt. Aber wenn man erst mal rechts außen angekommen ist, kommt es dann eben auf Fakten schon lange nicht mehr an.

ANTISEMITISM IS BEING “INTRODUCED TO TEENAGERS” THROUGH INSTAGRAM AND TIKTOK, ACCORDING TO NEW REPORT

Antisemitism is being “introduced to teenagers” through Instagram and TikTok, according to a new report from the anti-racism organisation Hope Not Hate.  The report also found that users were being led down a “rabbit hole of political extremism” due to the social media platforms’ algorithms and that users were spreading antisemitic sentiments using emojis and filters. Common, antisemitic hashtags used on the platforms allegedly included #JewWorldOrder and #synagogueofsatan. In addition, hashtags seemingly belonging to broader conspiracy theories such as #illuminati and #NWO (New World Order) embedded hidden content that redirected users to antisemitic tropes. It was also reported that Instagram’s algorithm would present people looking at these hashtags with far-right accounts for them to follow. We reported last year that Instagram and Facebook came under pressure to take action following the revelation that a network of 80,000 white supremacists was operating on its platform. A spokesperson for Instagram said: “Antisemitism is completely unacceptable and we don’t allow it anywhere on Instagram. We’ve always removed attacks against people based on their religion, and last year we made important updates to our policies, to remove any content that denies or distorts the Holocaust, as well as more implicit hate speech, such as harmful stereotypes that Jewish people control the world.”
Hope Not Hate’s report said that while TikTok banned hashtags that appear blatantly antisemitic, such as #killthejews, other hashtags that may not include an overt reference to Jewish people but would still be considered antisemitic or direct people to antisemitic content, such as #rothschildfamily, #synagogueofsatan and #soros, had been viewed 25.1 million times in six months. A spokesman for TikTok said: “TikTok condemns antisemitism, and we work aggressively to combat hate by proactively removing accounts and content that violate our policies and redirecting searches for hateful ideologies to our community guidelines.” We recently produced a series of posts highlighting TikTok’s problem of allowing content that promoted Holocaust denial.  In July, we reported that according to a new study, antisemitic content on the social media platform TikTok had increased by 912%. According to research from Dr Gabriel Weimann of the University of Haifa and Natalie Masri of IDC Herzliya’s Institute for Counter-Terrorism, antisemitic comments on TikTok grew 912% from 41 in 2020 to 415 in 2021, and the platform saw 61 antisemitic postings so far this year compared to 43 last year. Antisemitic tropes and images that were used in video content included Nazi salutes, diminishing the impact of the Holocaust, and propagating caricatures of Jews with long, hooked noses.

Nordrhein-Westfalen – Mehr als 50 rechtsextreme Verdachtsfälle bei der Polizei bestätigt – #polizeiproblem

Ein Beamter soll Fotos von Weihnachtsbaum-Kugeln mit »Sieg Heil«-Aufschrift gepostet haben, ein anderer zeigte den »Hitler-Gruß«: In NRW hat die Polizei 53 rechtsextreme Verdachtsfälle bestätigt. Etwa ein Jahr nachdem rechtsextreme Verdachtsfälle bei der Polizei in Nordrhein-Westfalen bekannt wurden, hat sich dieser Verdacht in 53 Fällen bestätigt. Das hat das Innenministerium in Düsseldorf auf Anfrage Nachrichtenagentur dpa mitgeteilt. Die Fälle seien bereits abschließend geprüft und geahndet worden. Die Konsequenzen waren meist dienstrechtlicher Natur: Sechs Kommissaranwärter waren entlassen worden. Bei den arbeitsrechtlichen Verfahren kam es zu zwei Kündigungen und drei Abmahnungen, hatte das Innenministerium bereits vor einigen Wochen bekannt gegeben. (..) Der Skandal um rechtsextreme Chat-Gruppen bei der Polizei hatte sich im vergangenen Jahr mehr und mehr ausgeweitet. So war auf beschlagnahmten Datenspeichern das verbotene Horst-Wessel-Lied gefunden worden. Dabei handelt es sich um das Kampflied der SA und die spätere Parteihymne der NSDAP. Ein Beamter soll Fotos von Weihnachtsbaum-Kugeln mit SS-Runen und »Sieg Heil«-Aufschrift gepostet haben. Bei einem anderen Beamten waren Fotos mit einem Hakenkreuz entdeckt worden, das aus Dienstmunition gelegt worden war. Ein Polizist hatte sich in Uniform auf zwei Streifenwagen stehend dabei fotografieren lassen, wie er den »Hitler-Gruß« zeigte. Strafrechtlich kamen die betroffenen Polizisten in der Regel mit weißer Weste davon, weil die Justiz die WhatsApp-Chats als private Kommunikation einstufte.
