Nazis in Your Neighborhood: Anti-fascist researchers out an extremist music label operating in the Tenderloin

Based in a supportive housing building, the one-man distributor sells fascist music and merch from all over the world. Charles McLaughlin runs Brotherhood of Light Recordings, a label that promotes and distributes Neo-Nazi and fascist music from Poland to Korea. For years, he has operated out of an apartment in a small Tenderloin supportive housing building.  Since 2009, Brotherhood of Light Recordings has pushed out hundreds of records that use Nazi symbols and ideas. McLaughlin also makes his own music under the names Panzerjager, Sunchariot, and Svetovid, among others. In this capacity, he has joined forces on a number of albums with other Neo-Nazi and far-right artists and labels that platform white supremacist speech and violent rhetoric. McLaughlin’s identity and work was revealed last month by Bay161, a group of anonymous anti-fascist researchers who document evidence of far-right extremism in the Bay Area. Gazetteer SF reached out to McLaughlin via his email address on the Brotherhood of Light Recordings site, and visited his purported address in the Tenderloin. This reporter was not allowed access to his unit due to the building’s visitor policy, but a staff member confirmed that McLaughlin lives there. In an email, McLaughlin said he owns Brotherhood of Light Recordings but claimed that he “restarted” the brand in 2017 to be a “non-political label that releases various kinds of music.” The SF native also said he is a “hermit” who lives with “little to no socialization” outside of his family. “I release various bands with various sorts of ideals and political views, but all political views of these bands are not of the label. Brotherhood of Light Recordings is not a political label and does not promote any specific ideology, despite how it may be perceived currently,” he claimed.  However, Brotherhood of Light Recordings is a clear and key player in the far-right underground metal, industrial, and noise music scenes. This extremist subculture relies heavily on a DIY approach to publishing, with independent distributors like McLaughlin sourcing and/or creating a variety of cassettes, CDs, vinyl records, and merchandise. McLaughlin currently sells Neo-Nazi art from around the world, including the US, Argentina, Austria, Finland, and France. Genres in this underground scene include National Socialist Black Metal, racist and anti-Semitic “Rock Against Communism,” and “Neo-folk” music that veils fascist ideology in Norse, pagan, and historical pastoral imagery. Defenders of these genres often claim that offensive lyrics and imagery are used for shock value, rather than as a true expression of beliefs. However, McLaughlin’s history and collaborations explicitly reference Neo-Nazi and white supremacist ideology.  Brotherhood of Light Recordings’ recent discography includes the band Brahmastra’s “SS Tibet” (a reference to a 1930s Nazi expedition) and music from the group 1389, whose name echoes the same year that hundreds of Jews were massacred in a pogrom in Prague. Some acts promoted by McLaughlin are far less subtle, like the band Rassenschande — the word for the Nazi party’s anti-race-mixing program — who dropped a 2021 track named “Nazis in Your Neighborhood.”  McLaughlin’s own music, meanwhile, also leans into similar Nazi references. His band Panzerjager is named after the Wehrmacht’s anti-tank vehicle and uses historical Nazi imagery. McLaughlin’s other band Sunchariot features lyrics mourning the “death of western light” and lauding the “banner of the 12-armed sun,” a specific nod to the “Black Sun” hate symbol frequently used by Neo-Nazi groups. He has released his music through companies like Winter Solace Productions, Defeat Never Victory Forever Records, and the far-right Polish label Werewolf Promotion, all of which promote Neo-Nazi materials. McLaughlin also promotes graphic artists such as H8 Propagand Art, which specializes in Nazi and “Neo-folk” imagery

Mayor of Marseille opposes Kanye West concert over ‘unapologetic Nazism’

Benoît Payan said the rapper is “not welcome” to perform at his scheduled concert at the Velodrome stadium on 11 June. The mayor of the southern city of Marseille, France’s second-biggest city, does not want American rapper Kanye “Ye” West anywhere near his city. Mayor Benoît Payan has opposed West’s visit, after the controversial singer announced a concert at the Vélodrome stadium on 11 June – West’s only scheduled French gig. In a message posted on X, Payan said: “I refuse to let Marseille become a showcase for those who promote hatred and unapologetic Nazism. Kanye West is not welcome at the Vélodrome, our temple of living together and of all Marseillais.” Payan is not alone in wanting West to stay away. The CRIF (Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France) believes that welcoming “someone who has professed his admiration for Hitler raises a real moral question”. Previously, West had his Australian visa cancelled and was threatened with immediate arrest in Brazil. In recent years, West has made numerous racist and anti-Semitic comments, going so far as he posting a picture of KKK robes, rescinding his previous apology to the Jewish community, declaring himself “a Nazi” and asserting that he has “dominion over his wife”. West also started selling swastika t-shirts, and released a song titled ‘Heil Hitler’, in which he praised the Nazi leader.

U2 Drops Surprise Song to Honor ICE Victim

U2 just pulled a Bruce Springsteen. The band has released its first collection of new songs in nearly a decade, the six-song EP Days of Ash. The songs include a tribute to Renée Good called “American Obituary,” and are a reflection of the somber political times in the nation, as Bono hits ICE, Putin, Netanyahu, and more. “Renée Good born to die free / American mother of three / Seventh day / January / A bullet for each child, you see,” Bono sings of Good, the 33-year-old mother and American citizen gunned down by ICE last month. The scathing rebuke continues, “To desecrate domestic bliss / Three bullets blast, three babies kissed / Renee the domestic terrorist? / What you can’t kill can’t die / America will rise / Against the people of the lie.” “American Obituary” comes a few weeks after Springsteen’s “Streets of Minneapolis,” a song that also memorializes the “two dead left to die on snow-filled streets / Alex Pretti and Renée Good,” while blasting Donald Trump and his administration. Springsteen also released an anti-Trump EP “Land of Hope and Dreams,” which includes two of his onstage speeches calling the administration “corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous.” At the height of Trump’s beef with Springsteen last spring, he declared that the music icon “ought to KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT.” Bono defended Springsteen at the time, telling Jimmy Kimmel, “There’s only one boss in America.”

U2 is returning with its first collection of new songs in nearly a decade, opening with a tribute to Renee Good, the Minnesota mom fatally shot by a federal agent during this winter’s massive immigration crackdown. The Irish rock band released the six-song EP “U2 – Days of Ash” on Wednesday. Its first track, “American Obituary,” is dedicated to Good, who died Jan. 7 in Minneapolis during an encounter with a Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent. The song is a call for peace and a dedication to Good’s life. “Renee didn’t just believe in kindness; she lived it, fully and fiercely,” said Becca Good, her partner, in a statement released with the project. “She believed every person deserved the same compassion, care and dignity regardless of who they were.”

“Renee Good, born to die free / American mother of three / seventh day January / a bullet for each child, as you can see,” Bono sings on the hard rock song, after a forthright, pealing riff from the Edge. “Renee, the ‘domestic terrorist’? / What you can’t kill can’t die / America will rise against the people of the lie.”

Far-Right Croatian MP Sparks Crisis by Singing About Fascist Leader

The Croatian Liberals have threatened to quit the governing coalition unless Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic takes action to curb a far-right Homeland Movement MP who hymned a World War II-era fascist on video. Far-right Homeland Movement MP Josip Dabro is back at the centre of attention in Croatian politics after appearing in controversial video footage again. Dabro was appointed a minister at the beginning of the current coalition government’s mandate in 2024 but was quickly dismissed after a video became public of him shooting a gun through a car window in a populated area. Then in January 2025, video footage was leaked of Dabro stripped to the waist and gleefully wielding an illegal Kalashnikov in a cornfield. The latest incident centres around a recording published on February 15 in which Dabro, with a glass in his hand and accompanied by an accordionist, sings a song that appears to glorify Ante Pavelic, who was the head of the Nazi-allied Independent State of Croatia from 1941 to 1945, when fascist Ustasha forces killed Jews, Serbs and Roma people

Orlando’s Knight Library hosted an underage neo-Nazi ‘special guest’

Two Miami bars recently issued apology statements after hosting Clavicular. That was weeks before Knight Library publicly advertised tickets to attend his ‘special’ appearance. In early January, videos circulated online showing a group of far-right influencers partying at a Miami Beach club while singing along to the Kanye West song “Heil Hitler.” The group, including Andrew Tate, Myron Gaines, Sneako, Clavicular and known white nationalist Nick Fuentes, is seen motioning the Nazi salute and singing lyrics, “N*gga, Heil Hitler!” The club, Vendome, later issued a statement saying it does not condone antisemitism, hate speech or prejudice. (Although the Miami New Times reported videos appear to show club owner Jonathan Mansour standing alongside the group while West’s song played.)  Then another Miami club, El Patio, hosted one of the men. The Latin club also issued an apology statement and claimed it has since banned him, just like other hospitality groups in the area did. Orlando’s Knight Library, however, does not appear to feel the same remorse. The public displays of racism and bigotry in Miami, and subsequent public outcry, had no effect on Knight Library, which hosted neo-Nazi and far-right streaming personality Clavicular Monday night.  The bar advertised a “Mandatory Monday” event with the “special guest,” plus DJs Jammy and Mike Ri. The event flyer was shared on its social media pages and website prior to Monday and again on the day. Clavicular, whose real name is Braden Peters and is reported to be 20 years old, is a streamer whose platform centers on “looksmaxxing,” a controversial practice meant to optimize one’s physical appearance through methods like using crystal meth to keep weight off and facial “bone smashing.” It’s tied to the far-right-associated incel community and often focuses on eugenics and prioritizes white-associated facial features.  In his online content, Peters uses racial, antisemitic and anti-LGBTQ+ slurs and rhetoric against women. In December, video circulated of him appearing to hit someone with a Tesla Cybertruck. His visit to Knight Library Monday night is documented on his Kick page, a streaming platform similar to Twitch. The original video has since been made private, but clips of it are still publicly available on his page.  Peters is seen entering Knight Library with a group and being walked to the DJ booth. He’s greeted by applause, shouts and smiles from what appears to be a crowd filled with mostly males. He’s introduced by the DJs to the crowd and takes photos with people behind the booth at the bar, which is geared toward college-aged individuals.
