A children’s sports coach who heads a far right group in Scotland has been condemned after describing his organisation as “racial nationalist”. Kenny Smith is a former British National Party (BNP) member and election candidate who now acts as the national organiser for Patriotic Alternative (PA) Scotland. PA has been accused of being “openly fascist” and The Ferret revealed in February that some of its supporters in Scotland posted racist and anti-Semitic messages along with disturbing neo-nazi images in a private group on messaging app Telegram. The Campaign Against Antisemitism said PA had a “deeply worrying fixation with recruiting impressionable young people to its far-right ideology” and urged those caring for young people to be vigilant of the group. Recent infighting within PA has seen documents, messages and audio from leading figures leaked by disillusioned former members who claim the group’s followers are being led to “a ruinous end”. By analysing these materials, The Ferret has been able to confirm Smith’s identity. On 10 August, Smith featured on a far right podcast which has reportedly described itself as “Britain’s most racist podcast”. During the recording, Smith said he is originally from the Western Isles and will be 49 this year. He told the podcast host he had been involved in “racial nationalism” since 1991, which is when he went to his first BNP meeting in Glasgow. He recalled listening to “skinhead music” including neo-nazi bands Skrewdriver and Brutal Attack, and handing out BNP leaflets at an anti-abortion rally held by the late Northern Irish DUP politician, Ian Paisley, in Stornoway in 1998. Smith called PA a “racial nationalist organisation” which would not be active if “our country was an ethnostate”. The far-right organiser advised PA members to keep a low profile online, avoid using “racial slurs” and do things “by the book” in order not to attract the attention of security services. “We want our youngsters to keep their head down, finish their education and get a good job,” he said. Smith also discussed his group’s recent trip to Ben Nevis where they displayed a “White Lives Matter” banner at the summit, a stunt that was condemned by local MP Ian Blackford and the The John Muir Trust. An Elk Grove Village man was charged with breaching the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 insurrection, a decision he later described to an FBI agent as his “biggest mistake.” Marcos Gleffe, 38, was hit with a handful of charges, including entering a restricted building and disorderly conduct on U.S. Capitol grounds, according to a criminal complaint unsealed Thursday in federal court in Washington, D.C. A warrant for his arrest was included in the court filing. Gleffe allegedly admitted to traveling from the Chicago area to attend a rally headlined by former President Donald Trump that preceded the chaos at the Capitol, where Trump’s supporters sought to disrupt the certification of the November election. Gleffe came onto the feds’ radar when a tipster identified him in Facebook posts from that day, the court records show. FBI agents then mined cellphone data to determine that he’d entered the Capitol for nearly 15 minutes. During a May 3 interview with the FBI, Gleffe admitted to entering the building but expressed regret, according to the complaint. He allegedly said he made “the biggest mistake going through the door,” adding that he “would not do it again if I could go back.” Gleffe claimed he followed a group of people that declared they were “storming the Capitol,” although he insisted he just wandered through hallways and didn’t enter any rooms, according to the complaint. Diesmal thematisiert er die Klimakrise – und wieder attackiert Rezo zahlreiche Politiker. Der Youtuber Rezo hat am Sonntag erneut eines seiner „Zerstörungsvideos“ veröffentlicht. In dem etwa halbstündigen Stück spricht er über die Klimakrise und kritisiert die Klimapolitik der deutschen Politik scharf. (…) Im ersten Teil des neuesten Videos geht Rezo auf die aktuellen Folgen der Erderhitzung ein, um in einem zweiten Schritt den Zuschauern die Grundlagen der Klimakrise zu erläutern, wozu unter anderem der Weltklimarat sowie der Treibhauseffekt gehören. Sein Fazit: „Die Klimakrise ist jetzt schon am Start und sie ist auch hier schon am Start. Also natürlich wird es noch wärmer werden in den nächsten Jahrzehnten und diese ganzen Effekte werden krasser und schlimmer. Daran besteht kein Zweifel. Die Frage ist nur, wie schlimm es wird.“ Im Mittelpunkt des Videos stehen Politiker, die in der Vergangenheit per Interview oder via Twitter die Aussagen der Wissenschaft infrage gestellt haben. Ein weißer Anwohner, der später als Steve Dudek (57) identizifert wurde, streitet mit ihnen darüber, ob sie ihr Boot ins Wasser lassen dürfen. Am Telefon behauptet Dudek gegenüber der Polizei: „Ich werde von einem Haufen schwarzer Typen belästigt. Ja, belästigt. Weiße Leben zählen auch.“ Was das Video nicht zeigt: Kurz darauf attackiert Dudek vier der Männer mit Pfefferspray. Besonders bitter: Eines der Opfer ist laut „Stamford Advocate“ selber Polizist. Nach dem rassistischen Angriff wurde Dudek wegen Körperverletzung und Notruf-Missbrauch angeklagt.

When news broke of an ‘incel’ (involuntarily celibate) terrorist attack in Plymouth, England on 13 August, media coverage of the perpetrator and explanations for his motive quickly went viral. Academics tracking the shooter’s online activity provided further information of his digital footprint, which indicates an interest in incel subcultures, while the UK Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation linked to a report referencing inceldom as a potential terrorism category. Others rightly pointed out the problematic issue of the shooter being given back his gun license last month, after it had been previously revoked following an allegation of assault. Initially, it was contested whether the attack qualifies as terrorism, but after police reviewed the case, it has been reclassified as incel terrorism. (…) While incel terrorism should be considered a threat, terrorism researchers should not dismiss the well-developed body of scholarship on violent misogyny and male supremacism, which offers useful analytical perspectives on the phenomenon. This Perspective further argues that policymakers and tech companies must identify and classify incels in ways that move beyond traditional counter-terrorism models. (…) Incels attribute their lack of success in developing sexual relationships with women to biological determinism, believing that women solely choose men who are physically attractive and that some men, such as incels, are thus genetically predetermined to never find a mate. Self-described incels are allegedly ‘victims’ of this social dynamic and increasingly blame women’s agency, escalating into violent misogyny where women are frequently targets. This process is referred to as embracing the ‘black pill’ ideology in the incel community. While such attitudes are extreme, they amplify mainstream gender norms. Further, the beliefs and worldview of incels stem from mainstream cultural concepts that have become popularised, such as evolutionary psychology from pseudo-scientific research.
