The #FBI Is Using Baked Alaska’s Livestream to Track Down #Capitol Hill #Rioters

In a massive self-own, the FBI is using the far-right media personality’s livestream to track down Capitol Hill rioters. The riots at Capitol Hill were streamed live across the internet. Far-right personality Tim Gionet, known as Baked Alaska, was there and streamed the riot for an hour, starting outside of the capitol before moving inside the building and interviewing participants. “Happy, happy day,” Gionet said at the beginning of his stream while police sirens wailed in the background. Now, the FBI is using footage from his livestream to track down Capitol Hill rioters in a self-own for the ages. The FBI has put out several calls for help from the public as it continues to prosecute the Capitol Hill rioters, including a call for information about the well-known conspiracy theorist Jacob Chansley, also known as Jake Angeli and the QAnon Shaman. This latest call includes 10 photographs with at least two, photograph 74 and 76, pulled from Gionet’s livestream. This connection was first identified by Bloomberg technology’s William Turton. Gionet is a former Buzzfeed employee turned far-right media personality. Gionet has been kicked off most major social media platforms for various offenses, including getting banned from Uber for expressing white supremacist views. On January 6, he streamed the Capitol riots onDLive, an alternative to Twitch, from which he was also banned. DLive suspended Gionet’s account after the Capitol riots and removed his video, but archivists had already saved copies of it. Gionet moved through the Capitol building with confidence, talking to his fellow rioters and joking around. Viewers chimed in with comments that ran in a scroll on the left side of the screen. “GET PELOSI’S COMPUTER,” one user wrote.

Ashli Babbitt: A Far-Right Martyr of the #Insurrection – #terror #capitol

On 6 January, during the insurrection on Capitol Hill, Ashli Babbitt was fatally shot in the neck by Capitol police as she was trying to climb through a broken window into the Speaker’s lobby. Her death was part of a dark day for American democracy. Ashli Babbitt was a 14-year veteran of the Air Force, a mother, white and a QAnon adherent. In her death she has been called a crisis actor by QAnon; however, though the movement she followed has discarded her, other ideologically motivated violent extremists (IMVE) movements rapidly adopted her as a symbol of their cause. In an article from Perspective on Terrorism, Ari Ben Am and Gabriel Weimann cover the role of martyrdom in far-right terrorism. They state that martyrdom plays an important role in the promotion of any ideology as martyrs act as symbols for ideological movements. Martyrs further become symbols that will motivate a movement or ideology towards action in the name of a martyr. Additionally, martyrs are a source of encouragement for action and unity due to the perceived sacrifice of the individual in the name of the ideology. Ben Am and Weimann highlight that martyrs serve as ideal promulgators of an ideology to be emulated, while also “humanizing” them, all the while “provid[ing] adherents of an extremist movement both a symbol and figurehead to refer to and justify the rightness of their ideology or movement both in the eyes of adherents and parts of a wider public.” Martyrs are widely celebrated in the mythos and communities of IMVE actors, as individuals who are willing to sacrifice it all for their cause. Individuals like Dylan Roof, Timothy McVeigh, are perceived as “saints”, while other perceived “saints” have seen their manifestos raised to a holy text, for example Brenton Tarrant’s “The Great Replacement” or Andrei Breivik’s “2083 – A European Declaration of Independence”. These acts of martyrdom have inspired movements and violent acts, looking to emulate the martyr’s sacrifice.
Fictional martyrs and martyr narratives also play a role in far-right martyrdom. Turner diaries according to J.M Berger “is arguably the most important single work of white nationalist propaganda in the English language”. The protagonist is celebrated as a hero and martyr, when his final act is the deciding factor in overthrowing the government. This is a point that Kathleen Belew brought up following the 6 January insurrection. As Belew explains ““The Turner Diaries” is a novel but it’s also a manual of operations and a cultural lodestar, or center point, for white power activists.” In this manner, following the Capitol Hill insurrection, Ashli Babbitt has been made into a new martyr figure, not for QAnon, but for “white America”: White Power movements, National Socialist, Accelerationists, Boogaloo movements, Militias, Neo-Nazis, and others seeking to supplant the federal government. Initial campaigns to martyrise her appear to have sprung from the Proud Boys ecosystem as they rallied individual around the slogan “her name was Ashli Babbitt”, echoing the Black Lives Matter rallying cry “her name was Breonna Taylor”. This thematic of borrowing from the BLM movement spread across Terrorgram with other communities following suite. In one instance a White Power chat called Ashli the “the white man’s George Floyd”, she is to be a rallying call for the far-right “just like how BLM had everyone change their profile pictures to BLM, we need to see our symbol everywhere” says another.

Golden Dawn member, wanted for attempted murder, arson, is arrested

Greek police say they have arrested a Golden Dawn member over an assault against five people at an anarchist hangout in Piraeus almost three years ago. The 34-year-old man, identified only by his initials, S.D. was arrested at the seaside resort of Porto Rafti, southeast of Athens, Thursday night. The “Ethnos” website reported he used to be a driver for jailed Golden Dawn leader Nikos Michaliolakos. Police said S.D., along with his accomplices, was wanted for multiple counts of attempted murder, as well as arson. He will appear before an examining magistrate, most likely Friday.On February 25, 2018, S.D., along with seven to nine others, had entered the anarchist so-called self-managed space “Favela” in Piraeus and had injured five persons, three men and two women, who were at the premises. One of the women, who was hit in the head with a sledgehammer and required stitches, was a lawyer representing the family of leftist rapper Pavlos Fyssas, who was murdered by a Golden Dawn member in 2013.

What we know about Dominic Pezzola, a “talented” high school boxer who led a raid on the Capitol. People who attended a private Catholic high school with Dominic Pezzola remember him as an “aloof, angry guy” who regularly picked fights at parties and was always slouching in his chair. That was more than 25 years ago. Now, word is traveling fast through the alumni community of The Aquinas Institute in a suburb of Rochester, New York, that their former classmate was the wild-eyed man seen smashing the window of the Capitol with a riot shield during the deadly January 6 insurrection. Through interviews with former classmates and reviewing archived social media posts and photographs, VICE News has identified Pezzola, now 43, as “Spazzo,” a member of the Proud Boys who is wanted by the FBI for his critical role in the breach that occurred on Capitol Hill. (…) Now, a week after the raid on the U.S. Capitol, Pezzola is facing federal charges for destruction of government property and obstruction of an official proceeding, according to an affidavit that surfaced Friday. He was arrested hours later, according to a criminal complaint. The FBI said that a witness testified that Pezzola, under his alias of “Spaz,” “bragged about breaking the windows to the Capitol and entering the building” to them. The witness went on to say that Pezzola and the group he was with had “said that anyone they got their hands on they would have killed, including Nancy Pelosi.”

Ein Polizist berichtet von den Momenten, als er von Trump-Anhängern beim Sturm auf das Kapitol in die wütende Menschenmenge gezogen wird. Die Angreifer drohen, ihn zu töten – mit seiner eigenen Pistole. Es entwickelt sich ein Kampf ums Überleben. Videos, auf denen zu sehen ist, wie Trump-Anhänger beim Sturm auf das Kapitol in Washington Polizisten in die Menschenmenge ziehen und auf sie einschlagen, hatten für Entsetzen gesorgt. Einer der Beamten, Michael Fanone, sprach jetzt über den Einsatz, der ihn fast das Leben gekostet hätte. Der 40-Jährige hatte an dem Tag eigentlich Bürodienst, eilte aber ans Kapitol, als er von den Angriffen hörte. Dort stand er dann den Trump-Anhängern an vorderster Front gegenüber und versuchte, einen Eingang gegen die Angreifer zu verteidigen, wie ein von CNN veröffentlichtes Video zeigt. Fanone wurde von dem wütenden Mob in die Menschenmenge gezogen, wie in weiteren Aufnahmen zu sehen ist – für den Polizisten startete ein Kampf ums Überleben.
Angreifer schlugen auf Fanone ein, rissen ihm seine Ausrüstung vom Körper, mehrfach wurde er getasert, wie er gegenüber CNN berichtete. „Dann haben ein paar Typen nach meiner Pistole gegriffen, und sie haben geschrien: ‚Erschießt ihn mit seiner eigenen Pistole.‘ An dem Punkt ging es nur noch darum, wie ich diese Situation überlebe.“ Polizist appellierte an die Menschlichkeit der Angreifer Fanone, der seit 20 Jahren im Polizeidienst ist und vier Kinder hat, berichtete weiter, dass er darüber nachgedacht habe, die Angreifer zu erschießen. „Mir ist dann aber klar geworden, dass ich nicht alle von ihnen erschießen kann, sie mir vermutlich meine Pistole wegnehmen würden und ihnen das endgültig die Rechtfertigung geben würde, mich zu zu töten – wenn sie das nicht sowieso schon vorgehabt hatten.“ Er habe stattdessen an die Menschlichkeit der Angreifer appelliert. „Ich erinnere mich, dass ich schrie, dass ich Kinder habe. Und das schien etwas zu bewirken.“ Einige der Randalierer seien dazwischen gegangen und hätten ihn beschützt, bis andere Polizisten ihn aus dem Mob retteten. Dafür sei er dankbar, aber auch sehr frustriert, sagte Fanone gegenüber CNN. Was er den Helfern unter den Kapitolrandalierern gern sagen würde? „Danke – aber f*** you dafür, dass ihr dort gewesen seid.“

#Lübcke-#Mord: Kontakte zu #NSU-Umfeld weitreichender als bisher angenommen – #terror

Der geständige Mörder des Kasseler CDU-Politikers Walter Lübcke ist nicht nur ein langjähriger Gewalttäter und Rechtsextremist, er hatte auch persönliche Bekanntschaften im NSU-Umfeld. Zudem gab es auffällige Verbindungen zu Personen rund um den NSU-Mord in Kassel, wie interne Dokumente zeigen. Gegen Mitternacht, am 1. Juni 2019, sackt der frühere Kasseler Regierungspräsident Dr. Walter Lübcke in einem Stuhl auf der Terrasse seines Wohnhauses zusammen, getötet durch einen Kopfschuss aus nächster Nähe. Ermordet hat ihn der langjährige Rechtsextremist Stephan Ernst, das gilt inzwischen als sicher. Wegen psychischer Beihilfe ist zudem der Neonazi Markus H. angeklagt. Ernst behauptet, gemeinsam mit H. gehandelt zu haben und so sehen es auch die Bundesanwaltschaft und die Familie Lübcke. (…) Stephan Ernst steht auch wegen eines weiteren Tatvorwurfs vor Gericht: Gegen 22 Uhr am 6. Januar 2016 fällt Ahmed I. auf einem Bürgersteig in Kassel zu Boden. Ein Radfahrer hatte ihm von hinten ein Messer vier Zentimeter tief in den Rücken gerammt. Versuchter Mord, so lautet die Anklage gegen Ernst. (…) In dem Plädoyer hatte die Bundesanwaltschaft Ende Dezember vor dem Oberlandesgericht auch ausgeführt, dass die Ermordung Lübckes in der Tradition des von Rechtsextremisten propagierten „führerlosen Widerstands“ stehe. Auf diesem Prinzip beruhte auch der Terror des Nationalsozialistischen Untergrunds, kurz NSU. Ernst ist deutschen Ermittlungsbehörden schon lange bekannt, aber bisher haben die Sicherheitsbehörden keine besondere Nähe zum NSU festgestellt. Interne Dokumente belegen, dass die persönlichen Verbindungen des Lübcke-Attentäters aus Kassel zu NSU-Netzwerken im nahe gelegenen Thüringen intensiver waren als bisher bekannt. Die Angeklagten wollten sich auf Nachfrage von CORRECTIV nicht äußern. Ein Umfeld mit vielen gemeinsamen Bekannten Allein bis zum Jahr 2009 gab es im polizeilichen Informationssystem POLAS 37 Einträge über Stephan Ernst. Der hessische Verfassungsschutz zählt über 60 Rechtsradikale zum Personenkreis um Ernst und seinen mutmaßlichen Helfer Markus H., wie CORRECTIV aus dem Lübcke-Untersuchungsausschuss in Hessen erfuhr. Auch das Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz war durch Quellenmeldungen über Stephan Ernst informiert. Insgesamt 13 solcher Meldungen mit Bezug zu Ernst lagen dem Amt vor dem Mord an Lübcke vor. (…) CORRECTIV sichtete dutzende, teils geheime Dokumente und Vernehmungsprotokolle sowie Fotos und Recherchen anderer Medien. Sie zeigen in der Zusammenschau: Ernst und auch H. bewegten sich offenbar näher als bisher angenommen im Umfeld der terroristischen Vereinigung. Das beginnt bei den persönlichen Bekanntschaften von Ernst mit vier Rechtsextremisten, die von der Bundesanwaltschaft als wichtigste Personen in den Ermittlungen zum NSU-Komplex eingestuft wurden. Sie alle stehen auf einer entsprechenden Liste der Bundesanwaltschaft, die CORRECTIV vorliegt und neben dem NSU-Kerntrio insgesamt 35 Personen umfasst, darunter die engsten und teils später verurteilten Unterstützer des Trios. Unter den NSU-Anschlagsorten ist Kassel die einzige Stadt, aus der Personen auf dieser Liste aufgeführt werden. Die Bundestagsabgeordnete Renner schlussfolgert deshalb, dass die Bundesanwaltschaft „möglicherweise ein sehr viel engeres Verhältnis des NSU nach Kassel als in die neonazistischen Szenen in den anderen Tatorten“ vorausgesetzt habe.
Neben den vier Bekannten und Freunden von Ernst gibt es zu weiteren Personen auf der Liste Verbindungen über Veranstaltungen, Organisationen und Kontakte. (…) Brisant ist der Kontakt zu Gärtner auch, weil dessen V-Mann-Führer Andreas Temme war, ehemaliger Mitarbeiter des hessischen Landesamtes für Verfassungsschutz und am Tatort bei einem der NSU-Morde anwesend. Ernst habe Temme aber nicht gekannt, gab er vor Gericht an. Dem Spiegel gegenüber teilte ein Anwalt von Ernst jedoch mit, dass in Gesprächen zwischen Gärtner und Ernst auch der Name Temme gefallen sei. Gespräche von Gärtner und Stephan Ernst über den Verfassungsschützer Temme sind deshalb so brisant, weil Temme und Gärtner später bei dem NSU-Mord in Kassel 2006 noch eine entscheidende Rolle einnehmen werden. (…) Der führende Neonazi Thorsten Heise ist die Nummer 10 auf der Liste der Bundesanwaltschaft und gehört damit ebenfalls zum Personenkreis mit „besonderer Bedeutung“. Ihm spricht die Zeitung Welt eine „Art Mentor“-Rolle für Stephan Ernst zu und dokumentiert zahlreiche Zusammenkünfte der beiden Neonazis zwischen 2001 und 2011 unter Berufung auf Unterlagen des Verfassungsschutzes. Vor Gericht berichtet Ernst auch wegen einer „Hausverteidigung“ bei Heise zuhause gewesen zu sein. Es sei damals darum gegangen, Heises Anwesen gegen Linke zu verteidigen. (…) Thorsten Heise gilt als entscheidender Führungskader der extremen Rechten in Deutschland. Was wusste er über den NSU und die Morde der Terrorbande, bevor diese öffentlich bekannt wurden? Ein verurteilter NSU-Unterstützer sagte nach seiner Verhaftung 2011 aus, er habe mit Heise bei „zwei, drei“ Treffen über eine mögliche Flucht des NSU-Kerntrios ins Ausland gesprochen und Heise habe gesagt, er hätte da jemandem, bei dem die drei auf einer Farm leben könnten. Auch Tino Brandt, ein ehemaliger V-Mann und Anführer des „Thüringer Heimatschutzes“, in dem auch das NSU-Kerntrio Mitglied war, sprach noch 2007 mit Heise über das Trio. Das geht aus Tonbandaufnahmen hervor, die bei Thorsten Heise sichergestellt wurden. Die Aufnahmen lassen den Verdacht aufkommen, dass Heise zu diesem Zeitpunkt möglicherweise von den Morden des Trios wusste. Heise zweifelt in dem Gespräch jedoch daran, dass die Taten dem Trio zugeordnet werden können. Bis Polizei und Öffentlichkeit erfahren, dass „die drei verschwundenen Jenaer“, über die Heise und Brandt sprechen, für die Morde, Sprengstoffanschläge und Banküberfälle verantwortlich sind, werden noch vier Jahre vergehen, weil fatalerweise genau dieses „zuordnen“, von dem Heise spricht, nicht gelang. Noch 2011 besuchte Ernst eine von Heise organisierte Sonnenwendfeier in Thüringen. Das belegt ein Foto von der Feier das dem Verfassungsschutz vorliegt und auch Thema im Gerichtsprozess war.

Open Letter to the U.S. Department of Justice: ADL Calls for a Criminal Investigation of Gab

The January 6 attack at our nation’s Capitol was deliberate and coordinated. Individuals who broke the law must be held accountable, but we cannot ignore that social media platforms, like Gab, may well bear a measure of criminal responsibility for the attack as well. To the extent Gab intentionally served as a forum for people to plan, coordinate, engage in or otherwise facilitate the criminal activity that took place on January 6, a Department of Justice investigation is warranted. The platform—as well as any other tech platform that may have undertaken or facilitated such actions—must be held accountable. To the extent Gab executives were aware and intended for the platform to be used to carry out violations of federal criminal law, such individuals must also be held accountable. (…) We need to determine whether white supremacist and extremist rioters used Gab’s services to plan their attack and communicate during the ongoing illegal activities of January 6. Through force, rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol Building to obstruct Congress’ proceeding to certify the results of the 2020 presidential election. These individuals engaged in several clear violations of federal criminal law. Criminal investigations should not be entered into lightly, particularly with regard to online platforms where the values of free speech rightly hold great sway. There is a considerable amount of hateful content online that should be removed by platforms under appropriate content moderation policies but does not rise to a level warranting a criminal investigation. Acknowledging that criminal investigations at times have been weaponized in this country to suppress free speech and to subvert social justice movements, ADL does not lightly call for such an investigation. But those who planned and used violence, storming the Capitol and seeking to stop certification of a legitimate election, were not engaged in constitutionally protected activity. They were engaged in dangerous criminal activity. Their actions predictably and horribly led to death, and if a platform intentionally facilitated such unlawful conduct it may itself have engaged in criminal acts for which it should be held accountable. That is what must be determined.
