A Cary man is accused of possessing weapon mass destruction after several items believed to be used for bomb making were found in his truck, according to search warrants. David Arthur Lawrence, 57 of Cary, was charged after officers with the Cary Police Department say a family member reported they believed Lawrence had made devices believed to be bombs and had made threats to kill Muslims, according to a search warrant. The warrant says the family member showed police a photo of items they saw in Lawrence’s car that included a brown paper bag, which contained gun powder, flint, PVC pipe, fuse cord, and pipe sealing glue. When that family member asked Lawrence what the items were for, warrants say Lawrence responded saying it was none of their business. Search warrants say that a family member brought the items they discovered to the police station. The Raleigh Police Department Bomb Unit responded to the Cary Police Department to identify the property items collected from the truck. Lawrence was taken into custody and when asked if there were any concerns for officer safety, court documents say he stated a “concussion grenade” had been removed from his car.
