Elon Musk PAC being investigated by Michigan secretary of state for potential violations

A political action committee backed by billionaire Elon Musk is being investigated by the Michigan secretary of state’s office amid efforts to collect voter data. Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has said he created and helped fund the America PAC, which is supporting former President Donald Trump. Musk has a net worth of over $225 billion, according to Forbes. The committee has been acquiring detailed voter information from those living in Michigan and other battleground states after people submit their personal data through a section on the PAC’s website that says “register to vote.” After clicking on the “register to vote” tab on America PAC’s website, users in states like Michigan can submit a ZIP code, address and phone number. People with a Michigan address are brought to a page that says “thank you” and asks users to “complete the form below” to help wrap up the voter registration process. As of Sunday afternoon, though, there was no other form to complete below the words “thank you.” “Every citizen should know exactly how their personal information is being used by PACs, especially if an entity is claiming it will help people register to vote in Michigan or any other state,” a spokeswoman for the Michigan secretary of state’s office said in a statement to CNBC. “While the America PAC is a federal political action committee, the Department is reviewing their activities to determine if there have been any violations of state law. We will refer potential violations to the Michigan Attorney General’s office as appropriate,” the spokeswoman added. CNBC first reported on the group’s efforts and how the site does not directly register people to vote for those with an address in a swing state. A person with direct knowledge of the PAC’s operations told CNBC that, at one point since the group registered with the Federal Election Commission in May, the links on the website were functioning properly — but admits now they’re not.

Er saß viele Jahre für Hamburg-Altona im Bundestag: Jetzt tritt Marcus Weinberg nach 38 Jahren aus. Seine Begründung gerät zur Abrechnung mit der Politiklinie der Partei. Bei der Bürgerschaftswahl 2020 war er Spitzenkandidat für die CDU in Hamburg. Lange war er Bundestagsabgeordneter. Jetzt tritt Marcus Weinberg nach 38 Jahren Mitgliedschaft aus der Partei aus – ein Paukenschlag für die Hamburger CDU. Die Entscheidung habe er sich lange und reiflich überlegt, erzählte er dem Hamburger Abendblatt. Als Grund nannte der 57 Jahre alte Lehrer im »Hamburger Abendblatt« inhaltliche Differenzen und eine fehlende Identifikation mit dem aktuellen Kurs der Partei. Der CDU-Landesverband bestätigte den Austritt. »Meine gesellschaftliche Haltung, die auf Zusammenhalt und Solidarität statt auf Populismus und Polarisierung setzt, mein Politikverständnis, das auf Ausgleich und eine politische Gesamtverantwortung allen Menschen gegenüber statt auf eine verengte Wählerklientelpolitik setzt, waren immer unverzichtbare Voraussetzungen zur Bindung an die CDU«, sagte Weinberg dem Abendblatt. »Diese Bindungselemente als Identifikation sind nicht mehr mit der heutigen CDU so, dass sie für mich tragfähig sind.« (…) »Am ›großen Gesamtbild‹ von Ole von Beust und Angela Merkel habe ich voller Überzeugung meine kleinen Pinselstriche gezogen. Ich spürte immer, auch bei allen vorhandenen Fehlern, das insgesamt positive Wirken der Gesamtverantwortung den Menschen gegenüber – auch über die eigene Wählerschaft hinaus«, sagt Weinberg dem Abendblatt rückblickend. Heute erkenne er bei der gesellschaftspolitischen Haltung und beim Auftreten der CDU »Linien und Ausrichtungen, die nicht meine sind.« Empört sei er über den Generalsekretär Carsten Linnemann, der mehr als 100.000 Menschen das Bürgergeld streichen will, weil sie angeblich nicht bereit seien, eine Arbeit anzunehmen. In Hamburg bemängelt er unter anderem, dass das Konzept der liberalen Großstadtpartei beerdigt wurde. Die Unterstützung für ein Gender-Verbot hält er auch für einen Fehler, so Weinberg gegenüber dem Abendblatt.

Neo-Nazi says there’s a ‘strong moral argument’ for KILLING police – after travelling to Southport to ‘document’ last week’s riots – #terror

A neo-Nazi terrorist who was in Southport when violence erupted on Tuesday night has suggested far-Right thugs could ‘target random police officers’. Matthew Hankinson said there is a ‘strong moral argument’ for killing police officers in a series of chilling posts shared after more than 100 people were arrested in Westminster last week. Hankinson was jailed for six years in 2018 for being a member of terrorist group National Action, which was proscribed by the Home Office over its support for the murderer of MP Jo Cox. In other posts on X, Hankinson said ‘Hitler was right’ and suggested he was supportive of a student who was jailed in March over a plot to kill 50 people in bomb attacks. Hankinson also called Mrs Cox a ‘subversive traitor’ in a response to a post from her husband Brendan, and repeated the phrase ‘Death to traitors, freedom for Britain’ – a slogan used by the Labour MP’s murderer when asked to give his name in court. (…) He also shared far-Right conspiracy theories such as the ‘Great Replacement’ and finished a post with ‘#14W’ – often used as a rallying cry for white supremacists.

UK far right raises money for convicted racists on US platform used by neo-Nazis

British far right activists are raising money for imprisoned white supremacists who were active in Scotland, using a controversial US Christian crowdfunding platform that allows neo-Nazis to fundraise. GiveSendGo was founded in 2014 to fundraise “for missionary trips, medical expenses for needy families, and other charitable causes”. But the American crowdfunder has been condemned for facilitating far-right actors banned from other platforms. The Ferret analysed more than 6,000 projects listed on GiveSendGo in June and July and identified 96 UK campaigns. We found there are campaigns on the platform for white supremacists, rapists, murderers, conspiracy theorists and far-right influencers. Together these campaigns have raised around £180,000. They include campaigns for white supremacists James Costello and Sam Melia, who are both serving prison sentences for inciting racial hatred. (…) Melia – once linked to the banned neo-Nazi terror group, National Action – was jailed for two years in March after being found guilty of inciting racial hatred, with the judge branding him an “antisemite” with “Nazi sympathies”.  He was the Yorkshire organiser for Patriotic Alternative, and head of the Hundred-Handers, an anonymous group responsible for posting racist stickers. The prosecution said these were key signs evidencing Melia’s ideology and highlighted his desire to spread his racist views in a deliberate manner. (…) The campaign for Melia was created by “Mark Collett”, the name of Patriotic Alternative’s controversial leader. It had raised £67,308 at time of writing. James Costello is a former member of Patriotic Alternative. He called himself the “Reverend” and was a leading figure in a white supremacist group called Creativity Movement. He was jailed last November for five years for racist offences including a “call to arms against black and Jewish people”.  As part of the case against Costello, the Crown Prosecution Service used evidence to show his connections with convicted terrorists, including National Action member Jack Renshaw, who was jailed for life in 2019 for planning to murder Labour MP Rosie Cooper (…) Other individuals on the site include someone trying to raise money for a group supporting the QAnon conspiracy theory. QAnon is a conspiracy theory that claiming former US president Donald Trump is waging a secret war against elite Satan-worshipping paedophiles in government, business and the media. In 2021 it was reported by The Guardian that a data breach at GiveSendGo revealed millions of dollars had been raised on the site for far-right causes and groups, many of whom are banned from raising funds on other platforms.  They included the Proud Boys, designated as a terrorist group in Canada, many of whose fundraising efforts were directly related to the 6 January attack on the United States Capitol.

Antisemitic flyers found at Charleston hotels; Man charged after giving police Nazi salute

A Logan County man was arrested in Charleston early Monday morning after police said he presented a Nazi salute and yelled obscenities after being given a citation. Jeremy Harris, 27, of Davin, is charged with disorderly conduct. Police said they were called to the Embassy Suites on Court Street for a report of a man placing antisemitic flyers on cars in the parking lot. Police said they found several flyers that had been removed by security that blamed the 9/11 terrorist attacks, negative aspects of gun control measures and the LGBTQ movement on the Jewish faith. Police said the flyers also represented circumcision practices performed by the Jewish faith in a “very offensive manner,” according to a criminal complaint.
