Anstatt Fragen zu beantworten, tanzt Donald Trump auf einer Veranstaltung vor der US-Wahl. Was hinter Trumps zunehmend „wirren“ Auftritten steckt, erklärt ein US-Experte. Wirre Wahlkampfauftritte von Donald Trump vor der US-Wahl gab es zahlreiche – doch dieses Mal spottet sogar US-Präsident Joe Biden über Trump. „Er stand 30 Minuten lang auf der Bühne und tanzte“, sagte Biden bei einer Veranstaltung in Philadelphia. „Was stimmt mit dem Typen nicht?“ Trump war am Montag (14. Oktober) in Oaks, einem Vorort von Philadelphia im Bundesstaat Pennsylvania, um bei einer Art Bürgerdialog vor der US-Wahl um Wählerinnen- und Wählerstimmen in dem Swing State zu werben. Nach etwa einer halben Stunde beendete Trump die Veranstaltung, nachdem sich vermutlich wegen Hitze im Saal zwei medizinische Notfälle im Zuschauerraum ereignet hatten. Anstatt dass Trump die Bühne verließ, kam er auf eine skurrile Idee. Harris greift Trumps Tanzeinlage im Wahlkampf vor der US-Wahl auf „Lasst uns ein Musikfest daraus machen. Wer zum Teufel will Fragen hören?“, sagte Trump und forderte die Regie auf, „Ave Maria“ zu spielen. In den folgenden 30 Minuten wünschte sich Trump weitere Songs, zu denen er sich auf der Bühne schwankend und tanzend bewegte. Harris teilte auf X ein Video mit Ausschnitten von Trumps Tanzeinlage und kommentierte: „Hoffentlich geht es ihm gut.“ Ihr Wahlkampfteam hatte zu dem Video bei X geschrieben, der Republikaner habe bei seinem Auftritt „verloren“ und „verwirrt“ gewirkt. „Die Wähler sehen einen geschwächten Trump, der stundenlang schwafelt, 30 Minuten lang stehen bleibt und die Leute zwingt, sich seine Spotify-Playlist anzuhören. Das ist bizarr und ist zunehmend Besorgnis erregend für die Wähler“, sagte ein Harris-Wahlkampfberater, der früher auch für Präsident Joe Biden gearbeitet hat, berichtet der Nachrichtensender NBC News. Demokraten fokussieren sich vor US-Wahl auf Trumps geistigen Zustand Wenige Wochen vor der US-Wahl versuchen die Demokraten, im Wahlkampf die Aufmerksamkeit auf Trumps geistigen Zustand zu lenken und die Frage, ob der 78-Jährige geeignet für das Amt des Präsidenten ist. Seit er gegen Harris um den Sieg bei der US-Wahl kämpft, wirkt Trump erratischer denn je. Trump verbreitet Verschwörungstheorien nach dem Hurrikan Helene, lästert über das Lachen seiner Gegnerin und „seine Reden sind schwerer und schwerer zu verstehen“, schreibt eine Autorin des US-Nachrichtensenders MSNBC. Bitte melden.« Dann ließ der 78-Jährige keine weiteren Fragen mehr zu und stattdessen mehr als eine halbe Stunde lang seine Lieblingsmusik abspielen, während er auf der Bühne stand und sich leicht hin und her bewegte. Zum Schluss wurde wie oft bei Trumps Auftritten der Disco-Hit »Y.M.C.A.« von Village People aus dem Jahr 1978 gespielt. Die demokratische Präsidentschaftskandidatin Kamala Harris schrieb später im Onlinedienst X ironisch: »Ich hoffe, es geht ihm gut.« Das Harris-Team stellt im Wahlkampf immer wieder die Frage nach der geistigen Fitness des 78-Jährigen.

Vereinigung Deutscher Staatsrechtslehrer – Die Dis­tan­zie­rung von Ulrich Vos­gerau

Mit deutlicher Mehrheit distanzierte sich vorige Woche die Vereinigung Deutscher Staatsrechtslehrer auf ihrer Mitgliederversammlung von ihrem Rechtsaußen-Mitglied Ulrich Vosgerau. Christian Rath beschreibt, wie es dazu kam, und ordnet ein. Die Vereinigung Deutscher Staatsrechtslehrer (VDStRL) galt jahrzehntelang als Hort des knorrigen Konservatismus. (…) Die VDStRL führt jährlich eine Fachtagung mit je zwei wissenschaftlichen Referaten zum Verfassungs- und Verwaltungsrecht durch. Die Tagungen sind nicht öffentlich, aber die Referate werden in Tagungsbänden (VVDStRL) publiziert, wobei traditionell die Fußnoten den meisten Raum einnehmen. Der AfD-nahe Ulrich Vosgerau Inzwischen hat die VDStRL rund 800 Mitglieder. In der Regel werden Ö-Rechtler nach der Habilitation auf Antrag der Kolleg:innen des Fachbereichs beziehungsweise der Fakultät aufgenommen. Eines der Mitglieder ist Ulrich Vosgerau. Er hatte 2015 im Zusammenhang mit Kanzlerin Merkels Flüchtlingspolitik den Begriff “Herrschaft des Unrechts” geprägt, den dann Innenminister Horst Seehofer bekannt machte. In der AfD-nahen Desiderius-Erasmus-Stiftung engagierte sich Vosgerau als stellvertretender Vorsitzender des Kuratoriums. Immer wieder berät und vertritt Vosgerau die AfD bei Klagen am Bundesverfassungsgericht, zuletzt in den Verfahren um parteinahe Stiftungen (AZ. 2 BvE 3/19) und um die Parteifinanzierung (Az. 2 BvE 5/18). Den Thüringer AfD-Vorsitzenden Björn Höcke vertrat er in diesem Jahr vor dem Landgericht Halle, als dieser wegen Verwendung von NS-Kennzeichen angeklagt und verurteilt wurde. Im Dezember 2023 nahm Vosgerau am Treffen des “Düsseldorfer Forums” um den rechtsextremistischen Zahnarzt Gernot Mörig in Potsdam teil, bei dem unter anderem der österreichische Rechtsextremist Martin Sellner seinen Remigrations-Plan vorstellte. Vosgerau selbst sprach über Probleme der Briefwahl. Als die Plattform Correctiv im Januar 2024 über das Potsdamer Treffen berichtete, geriet auch Vosgerau öffentlich unter Druck. (…) Die 83. Jahrestagung der VDStRL fand vom 9. bis 11. Oktober 2024 an der Universität Luzern statt. Die Mitgliederversammlung war für den Nachmittag des ersten Tags terminiert. Rund 230 Mitglieder nahmen teil. Vosgerau war nicht gekommen. Er habe in seiner Eigenschaft als Rechtsanwalt an einem wichtigen Meeting mit Mandanten teilnehmen müssen, ließ sein Anwalt Carsten Brennecke (Höcker Rechtsanwälte) ausrichten. Vosgerau war allerdings auch in den Jahren zuvor bei den Jahrestagungen kaum noch anwesend. Nach Darstellung aus Teilnehmerkreisen verlief die Diskussion durchaus lebhaft. Inhaltlich verteidigte niemand Vosgerau, umstritten war aber, ob und warum die Vereinigung hierzu Stellung nehmen soll. Manche fürchteten, dass die VDStRL sich nun regelmäßig von Positionen und Handlungen einzelner Mitgliedern distanzieren soll. In der Diskussion ging es allerdings nur um Vosgerau, nicht um andere Mitglieder wie Dietrich Murswiek, der auch schon Gutachten für die AfD erstellt hat, oder Michael Elicker, der die AfD zuletzt im BVerfG-Verfahren um Ausschussvorsitzende (2 BvE 10/21) vertrat. (,..) Dem Distanzierungsantrag stimmten dann laut table media 132 Mitglieder zu, bei 73 Gegenstimmen und 23 Enthaltungen. Die Debatte und der Beschluss scheinen eher der Selbstvergewisserung als der Außendarstellung gedient zu haben. Auf der Webseite der VDStRL ist der Beschluss jedenfalls nicht zu finden.

Democrats’ Report Calls Trump Hotel Business Unethical and Unconstitutional

Democrats on the House Oversight Committee said the former president overcharged the Secret Service and accepted money from officials and people who were seeking pardons and appointments. House Democrats on Friday accused former President Donald J. Trump of accepting “hundreds of unconstitutional and ethically suspect payments” through the Trump International Hotel in 2017 and 2018, moving weeks before the election to remind voters of the ethical issues raised by his refusal to divest from his businesses while in office. The 58-page report from Democrats on the Oversight Committee includes their final findings in a yearslong investigation digging into the Trump Organization’s management of the hotel. It accuses Mr. Trump of ripping off the Secret Service by charging the agency exorbitant rates and of inappropriately accepting payments from clients who worked for state governments or were seeking appointments and pardons from him. (…) Eric Trump, the former president’s son, has repeatedly claimed the organization charged the Secret Service a discounted rate. He has also said that any profit the company earned on the hotel stays from foreign officials was returned to the federal government through a voluntary annual payment to the Treasury Department. The Trump Organization has also said it did not have the ability to stop anyone from booking through third parties at the hotel. But the report seeks to undercut those statements. “Not only did President Trump’s hotel often charge the Secret Service far more than authorized federal government rates, the hotel also charged the agency far more than hundreds of other patrons, including members of a foreign royal family and a Chinese business interest,” the report states. Democrats on the panel previously found the Trump Organization charged the Secret Service up to $1,185 per night for hotel rooms used by agents protecting former Mr. Trump and his family. The latest report compares how much the Secret Service was charged at the hotel on the same nights as other guests. For example, it says that on Nov. 28, 2017, the Secret Service approved a waiver to pay a room rate of $600 when the per diem for that month was $201 — a 300-percent markup. Room records show that a dozen rooms were rented that same night to the Inner Mongolia Yitai Coal Co. Ltd., which is headquartered in China, for a lower rate: $338.85 each. The report also analyzes payments made by federal and state officials staying at the hotel, as well as people who sought — and obtained — favors from Mr. Trump, including federal jobs in his administration and presidential pardons. In just 11 months of the Trump hotel’s guest logs, the committee found 16 examples of state or federal officials who paid for rooms there, often while on official travel. The committee said such room rentals possibly violated the Constitution’s domestic emoluments clause if any taxpayer funds were used.

AI deepfakes a top concern for election officials with voting underway

Artificial intelligence could be weaponized on voters, feds warn. Protecting the vote: State election officials lose sleep over AI ABC News’ Devin Dwyer reports on Arizona election officials concerned about how artificial intelligence might be used to spread misinformation with less than three weeks to the election. PHOENIX — In the final weeks of a divisive, high-stakes campaign season, state election officials in political battleground states say they are bracing for the unpredictable and emergent threat posed by artificial intelligence, or AI. “The number one concern we have on Election Day are some of the challenges that we have yet to face,” Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes said. “There are some uncertainties, particularly with generative artificial intelligence and the ways that those might be used.” Fontes, a Democrat, said his office is aware that some campaigns are already using AI as a tool in his hotly contested state and that election administrators urgently need to familiarize themselves with what is real and what is not.

Elon Musk promoted several debunked conspiracy theories about the 2020 election during his first solo town hall Thursday in Pennsylvania, as he urged voters in the battleground state to support former President Donald Trump. Asked by a member of the audience gathered at the event in the Philadelphia suburbs about supposed “cheating” in 2020, Musk delivered a somewhat rambling response filled with basic inaccuracies and blatantly false claims about US elections. “When you have mail-in ballots and no, no sort of proof of citizenship, it becomes almost impossible to prove cheating, is the issue,” Musk falsely claimed. Voter fraud is rare, but when it does happen, it is usually caught thanks to the layers of safeguards built into voting processes, according to nonpartisan election experts. Musk’s comments on stage in front of Pennsylvania voters were consistent with much of the billionaire’s factually challenged commentary on his social media platform X, where he regularly promotes debunked pro-Trump conspiracy theories.

Millions of people are creating nude images of pretty much anyone in minutes using AI bots in a ‘nightmarish scenario’

Online chatbots are generating nude images of real people at users’ requests, prompting concern from experts who worry the explicit deepfakes will create “a very nightmarish scenario.” A Wired investigation on the messaging app Telegram unearthed dozens of AI-powered chatbots that allegedly “create explicit photos or videos of people with only a couple clicks,” the outlet reported. Some “remove clothes” from images provided by users, according to Wired, while others say they can manufacture X-rated photos of people engaging in sexual activity. The outlet estimated that approximately 4 million users per month take advantage of the deepfake capabilities from the chatbots, of which there were an estimated 50. Such generative AI bots promised to deliver “anything you want about the face or clothes of the photo you give me,” Wired reported. (…) On Telegram, bots can be used for translations, games and alerts — or, in this case, creating dangerous deepfakes. When contacted by Wired about the explicit chatbot content, the company did not respond with comment, but the bots and associated channels suddenly disappeared, although creators vowed to “make another bot” the next day. “These types of fake images can harm a person’s health and well-being by causing psychological trauma and feelings of humiliation, fear, embarrassment, and shame,” Emma Pickering, the head of technology-facilitated abuse and economic empowerment at the UK-based domestic abuse organization Refuge, told Wired.

‘It’s the First Amendment, stupid.’ Judge tells Florida to stop threatening TV stations

A federal judge ordered Gov. Ron DeSantis’ state Health Department to stop threatening television stations with criminal prosecution if they kept running ads in favor of an abortion amendment on the ballot next month. In a sharply worded ruling on Thursday, U.S. District Judge Mark Walker rebuked the DeSantis administration for trying to quash what he called constitutionally protected political speech. “To keep it simple for the State of Florida: it’s the First Amendment, stupid,” Walker wrote, granting a request for a temporary restraining order. A hearing for a preliminary injunction is scheduled for later this month. The ruling puts a temporary halt to one of DeSantis’ most brazen attempts to defeat Amendment 4, which would overturn the six-week abortion ban he signed into law. On Oct. 3, the Florida Department of Health sent letters threatening to criminally prosecute television stations if they did not stop running an ad that features a woman named Caroline who was diagnosed with brain cancer two years ago while pregnant with her second child. In the ad, the woman says Florida’s six-week abortion ban would have prevented her from receiving a potentially life-saving abortion.
