Am Samstagnachmittag stand das Strandanwesen der Richterin Diane Goodstein in Flammen. Nur wenige Wochen zuvor hatte sie ein wegweisendes Urteil gegen die Verwaltung unter US-Präsident Donald Trump gefällt. Es gab seitdem mehrere Berichte über Morddrohungen gegen die Richterin. Die Ermittlungen sind im vollen Gange, auch mutmaßliche Brandstiftung steht laut einigen Medienberichten im Raum. „Mir geht es gut“, sagte die Richterin Diane Goodstein der Daily Mail, sie habe wohl „fröhlich“ am Telefon geklungen. Goodstein soll am Strand spazieren gewesen sein, als die mutmaßliche Brandstiftung passierte. Ihr Mann Arnold Goodstein, früherer demokratischer Senator, sprang wohl aus dem Fenster im ersten Stock, um sich vor dem Feuer zu retten. Dabei soll er sich mehrere Knochen gebrachen haben. Zuvor habe er anderen Familienmitgliedern bei der Flucht geholfen. Zwei weitere Personen wurden offenbar ebenfalls hospitalisiert.

The fire began at around 11:30 a.m. E.T. on Saturday, sources told local news outlet FITSNews. Goodstein was reportedly not at home at the time of the fire, but at least three members of her family, including her husband, former Democratic state senator Arnold Goodstein, and their son, have been hospitalized with serious injuries. According to the St. Paul’s Fire District, which responded to the scene, the occupants had to be rescued via kayak.
