The group advocates for a ‘white ethno-state’ and encourages guerilla violence. Cells have also been tracked to Australia, South Africa and Canada. Alleged founder Rinaldo Nazzaro leads the group from Russia, where he lives. Parliament will now debate the motion, setting it up to pass later this week. The Base would be the fifth neo-Nazi group banned under anti-terror laws. The UK government has moved to outlaw The Base, a neo-Nazi extremist group primarily operating out of the US whose leader is allegedly a former American government contractor now living in Russia. Home Secretary Priti Patel is asking Parliament to proscribe ‘the extreme right-wing terrorist group’ which she says is ‘seeking to establish a white ethno-state.’ The Base has ‘celebrated and promoted the use of violence in an attempt to establish a fascist, white ethno-state by means of a ”race war,” and members are known to have engaged in weapons and explosives training,’ the Home Office said. Proscribing the group would officially label it a terrorist organisation and make it a criminal offense to be a member of or invite support for it, punishable by up to 14 years in prison. The maximum penalty was increased from 10 years through the Counter Terrorism and Sentencing Act passed this year. (…) Formed in 2018, the Home Office states the group shares similar goals and beliefs with Atomwaffen Division and its alias, National Socialist Order, which Patel proscribed earlier in 2021. While primarily US-based the group also has been identified in Australia, Canada and South Africa, according to an international security research group.
