In late January 2022, a group of truck drivers dubbed the “Freedom Convoy” drove across Canada to Ottawa to protest vaccine mandates and COVID-19 measures. The movement began after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau implemented measures that would require truckers crossing the U.S-Canada border to get vaccinated or quarantine when returning home. The convoy, which reached the Canadian capital of Ottawa on January 30, has raised $10 million Canadian dollars on GoFundMe. According to the fundraiser the money will be used for “the costs of fuel first, and hopefully food and lodgings.” Online neo-Nazis, white supremacists, conspiracy theorists, militia groups and other antigovernment extremists have shown support for the convoy both inside Canada on the ground and online. Some have called for the death of Prime Minister Trudeau, President Joe Biden, and other prominent government officials and businesspeople. Others have also called for similar convoys to be established in other countries such as Finland, Brazil, the United States, The Netherlands, and across Europe. The following are on Facebook, Telegram, Poast, and Gab.
