The group’s ideology promoted the idea that society will collapse into racial warfare – thus opening the way for the creation of a neo-Nazi state – and that this process should be accelerated through terrorist activity.

The Instagram page of GrindHouse Fine Foods, a sausage-maker in rural Manitoba, looks exactly as would be expected—at first: lots of pictures of meat, some photos of rural Canada, and a collection of cringey memes. One image, though, offers some clues about the man behind the account. It’s a photo of a white bunny sitting at the wheel of a car, with big white text above that reads: “Just get in the car, Alice. I’ll explain on the way.” “Has anyone else been following ‘Q’ and the ‘White Rabbit’ down the rabbit hole?” the caption reads. A mess of hashtags inscrutable to outsiders are below, from #QAnon to #FrazzleDrip, #PodestaEmails, #SethRich, #WWG1WGA, #AdrenochromeHarvesting, and more. Weeks later, the account posted another meme: “We’re organising a festival after lockdown ends,” it reads, the text superimposed onto the scene of some kind of outdoor party. “For more info Google ‘Event 201.’” Anyone who followed those instructions would find that Event 201 was a tabletop exercise, held in 2019, designed to help policymakers think about the prospect of tackling a pandemic. In the example, which I wrote about in March, the players were faced with a fast-moving novel coronavirus originating from China. (…) QAnon is the movement organized around the anonymous Q, a poster on the far-right trolling site 4chan who purported to be a high-level Trump administration official detailing a secret war against the deep state. While the QAnon movement started as a boisterous defense of Trump, it has taken on a life of its own. It has stretched its tendrils into a sprawling, fantastical, and dangerous conspiracy movement that alleges the rich and powerful of the world, from Beyoncé to George Soros, operate an elaborate child-trafficking organization. The only one standing in their way is the president of the United States. In recent months, the movement has been boosted by some high-level adherents. On July 4, QAnon followers began posting videos of themselves taking the oath of allegiance—a show of fealty to the cause. They were joined by former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn. Former Trump associate Roger Stone has further went on a QAnon podcast to say he hoped Q was, in fact, out there.

Die hessischen Ermittler haben bei ihren Recherchen zur Internethetze gegen den erschossenen Kasseler Regierungspräsidenten Walter Lübcke bislang 64 Tatverdächtige identifiziert. Neun der Ermittlungsverfahren richteten sich gegen hessische Beschuldigte, teilte das Justizministerium mit. Die übrigen 55 Verfahren seien an die zuständigen Staatsanwaltschaften in insgesamt 14 Bundesländern abgegeben worden. Die Verdächtigen sollen sich mit Äußerungen über den CDU-Politiker in sozialen Netzwerken strafbar gemacht haben. Dabei soll es laut Justizministerium um folgende Delikte gehen: Verdacht der öffentlichen Aufforderung zu Straftaten, der Volksverhetzung, der Belohnung und Billigung von Straftaten sowie der Verunglimpfung des Andenkens Verstorbener. (…) Den Ermittlern sei im vergangenen Monat bereits ein erster Erfolg gegen diejenigen gelungen, die das Internet für ihre Hetze einnähmen, sagte die Justizministerin. “Damit wird den Betroffenen gezeigt, dass das Internet kein rechtsfreier Raum ist.” Anfang Juni waren auf Grundlage der 64 Ermittlungsverfahren Razzien von Staatsanwaltschaften in zwölf Bundesländern durchgeführt worden. Dabei hatte es Durchsuchungen und Vernehmungen von insgesamt 39 Beschuldigten gegeben. Die Ermittlungen zur Identifizierung weiterer Tatverdächtiger dauerten an, teilte die Justizministerin mit.

Die drei Mitglieder zählende AfD-Fraktion im saarländischen Landtag hat den Abgeordneten Lutz Hecker ausgeschlossen. Fraktionschef Josef Dörr begründete das mit einem Vertrauensverlust. Auch Dörrs Stellvertreter Rudolf Müller stimmte dafür. “Das Fass zum Überlaufen gebracht hat, dass er angefangen hat, in der Fraktion über den Rechtsanwalt mit uns zu kommunizieren”, sagte Dörr. Hecker, bisher Parlamentarischer Geschäftsführer der Fraktion, sagte laut Saarbrücker Zeitung, er habe notgedrungen einen Anwalt eingeschaltet, um die Finanzen der Fraktion einsehen zu können. Das habe er zuvor jahrelang im Guten versucht, es sei ihm aber verwehrt worden. Dörr und Müller einerseits sowie Hecker auf der anderen Seite gehören unterschiedlichen Lagern in der Partei an.

Die hessische Polizei geht einem Zeitungsbericht zufolge in Zusammenhang mit rechtsextremen Bedrohungen einem weiteren Fall in den eigenen Reihen nach. Von einem Rechner der hessischen Polizei seien persönliche Daten der deutschen Kabarettistin Idil Baydar abgerufen worden, die von Rechtsextremisten seit Monaten mit Schmäh- und Drohschreiben überzogen werde, berichtete die „Frankfurter Rundschau“ (Dienstag). Dies gehe aus einem internen Polizeivermerk hervor, der der Zeitung vorliege. Rechtsextreme Drohschreiben Die 1975 in Celle geborene Baydar sei die dritte Prominente, bei der bekanntwerde, dass es eine unberechtigte Datenabfrage von einem hessischen Polizeicomputer gegeben habe. Vorher war herausgekommen, dass rechtsextremen Drohschreiben an die Frankfurter Rechtsanwältin Seda Basay-Yildiz und die hessische Linken-Fraktionsvorsitzende Janine Wissler jeweils Abfragen ihrer persönlichen Daten aus dem polizeilichen Abfragesystem vorangegangen waren.

Auf Basis enger Verbindungen mit Twitter gab die KI-Firma Dataminr laut einem Bericht Informationen über “Black Lives Matter”-Demos an Ordnungshüter weiter. Das auf Künstliche Intelligenz (KI) und Big-Data-Analysen spezialisierte New Yorker Unternehmen Dataminr hat seinen privilegierten unbegrenzten Zugang zu allen Twitter-Nachrichten in Echtzeit dazu genutzt, um US-Strafverfolgungsbehörden nach dem gewaltsamen Tod des Afroamerikaners George Floyd Hinweise auf “Black Lives Matter”-Proteste und daran beteiligte Personen zu geben. Dies meldet das Online-Magazin The Intercept und beruft sich dabei auf einschlägige Dokumente und eine Quelle mit direktem Wissen über die Vorgänge. Twitter gehörte bis vor Kurzem – zusammen etwa mit der CIA – zu den Investoren von Dataminr. Beide Firmen kooperieren nach wie vor sehr eng. So gewährt der Betreiber des sozialen Netzwerks dem 2009 gegründeten Data-Mining-Unternehmen vollen Zugriff auf seinen als “Firehose” bezeichneten vollständigen Content-Stream mit uneingeschränkten Suchmöglichkeiten. Dataminr kann so jeden öffentlichen Tweet scannen, sobald er publiziert wird. Dem Bericht zufolge hat das jüngst mit rund 1,8 Milliarden US-Dollar bewertete New Yorker Unternehmen Social-Media-Beiträge etwa mit den jüngsten Aufenthaltsorten und Aktionen von Demonstranten an Ermittler weitergeleitet. Die Polizei soll auch auf aktuelle Entwicklungen bei bestimmten Kundgebungen sowie auf Fälle angeblicher Plünderungen und Sachbeschädigungen aufmerksam gemacht worden sein. Die Protestbewegung sei quasi permanent auf Schritt und Tritt anhand ihrer Postings überwacht worden. Dataminr habe nicht nur laufende Demos akribisch verfolgt, sondern auch umfassende Aufzeichnungen über bevorstehende Umzüge gegen Polizeigewalt in Städten im ganzen Land mit der Staatsmacht geteilt, heißt es. Eingeschlossen gewesen seien die voraussichtliche Zeit und der Ort der geplanten Veranstaltungen. Ein Kalender habe gezeigt, dass die Firma gezielt Dutzende von großen und kleinen Protesten etwa in Detroit und Brooklyn sowie in Kommunen in Pennsylvania und Virginia überwachte.

A History of Police Work Dataminr helps newsrooms, corporations, and governments around the world track crises with superhuman speed as they unfold across social media and the wider web. Through a combination of people and software, the company alerts organizations to chatter around global crises — wars, shootings, riots, disasters, and so forth — so that they’ll have a competitive edge as news is breaking. But the meaning of that competitive edge, the supercharged ability to filter out important events from the noise of hundreds of millions of tweets and posts across social media, will vary drastically based on the customer; the agenda of a newspaper using Dataminr to inform its breaking news coverage won’t be the same as the agendas of a bank or the FBI. It’s this latter category of Dataminr’s business, lucrative government work, that’s had the firm on the defensive in recent years.

Im Gespräch mit dem Evangelischen Pressedienst (epd) sicherte er zugleich dem Lübcke-Untersuchungsausschuss des Landtags volle Unterstützung zu. Robert Schäfer: Bisher sind wir in 31 Fällen zu dem Ergebnis gelangt, dass wir die Personen wieder in die aktive Bearbeitung nehmen.
