– Bundesverfassungsgericht

Trump’s Administration Wants to Erase Queer History. An Unconventional Book Club Is Fighting Back

Drag Race star Miss Peppermint is co-leading Queer History 101, a virtual book club merging stories of queer resistance with community. HUGH RYAN HAS two things to say. The first will be alarming, but the second might offer some comfort: “The future is so much stupider than I expected, but the past is so much smarter.” Ryan would know. As a queer historian and author, he’s used to talking about the state of queer affairs, past and present, especially with actress, activist, and season 9 Ru Paul’s Drag Race contestant Miss Peppermint. Together, the two are currently running Queer History 101, a monthly book club that’s taking a more expansive approach to history than simply reciting dates or names, at a time when their mission couldn’t be more important. The queer community, especially transgender Americans, are under attack. The current administration is systematically wiping away trans people’s health information, gender autonomy, history, and employment opportunities, even in the case of national monuments like Stonewall, which is considered the birthplace of the modern movement for LGBT rights. “It’s shameful because we’re seeing the cover-up in front of our eyes,” Peppermint says. Many companies are also backing off their initiatives that once celebrated queer pride as part of a greater crackdown on DEI.

Surprise! New “MAHA” Report Is Full of Junk Science and Fake Studies

The latest Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s “Make America Healthy Again”. Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s “Make America Healthy Again” report cites fabricated studies and draws the wrong conclusions. The secretary of health and human services brags that the report, released last week, is based on “gold-standard” science drawn from over 500 studies and other sources. But in reality, NOTUS found, its citations are error-ridden, with missing links, incorrect conclusions, and sometimes even made-up studies. In one case, the supposed author of a study on anxiety in adolescents, epidemiologist Katherine Keyes, was surprised to find she was cited in the report for a paper she didn’t even write. “The paper cited is not a real paper that I or my colleagues were involved with,” Keyes told the publication in an email. “We’ve certainly done research on this topic, but did not publish a paper in JAMA Pediatrics on this topic with that co-author group, or with that title.” In fact, the study in question—“Changes in mental health and substance abuse among US adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic”—may not have been written by anyone. The link to it in the report doesn’t work, and the citation claims that it appeared in the twelfth issue of the 176th edition of the journal JAMA Pediatrics, which doesn’t contain a study with that title. That isn’t the only study cited by the MAHA report that doesn’t seem to exist (…) In other parts of the MAHA report, conclusions are drawn from papers that don’t even touch on the topics or methods Kennedy’s report cites, and other researchers cited in the report claim their studies were mischaracterized. Kennedy doesn’t seem to be aware of the issues in the report, extolling how great it is on social media. “Never in American history has the federal government taken a position on public health like this,” Kennedy said, according to a White House post on X. Kennedy has a long history of pushing medical misinformation. A well-known anti-vaccine activist, his tenure as HHS secretary has been marked by questionable decisions and statements. Kennedy has stopped the department from recommending Covid vaccines for children and pregnant women, claimed that the measles vaccine contains aborted fetuses, and pushed for fluoride to be removed from state water supplies, among many other misguided decisions.

siehe auch: RFK Jr.‘s ‘Make America Healthy Again’ report seems riddled with AI slop. Dozens of erroneous citations carry chatbot markers, and some sources simply don’t exist. There are some questionable sources underpinning Robert F. Kennedy Jr.‘s controversial “Make America Healthy Again” commission report. Signs point to AI tomfoolery, and the use of ChatGPT specifically, which calls into question the veracity of the White House report meant to address reasons for the decline in US life expectancy. An investigation by NOTUS found dozens of errors in the MAHA report, including broken links, wrong issue numbers, and missing or incorrect authors. Some studies were misstated to back up the report’s conclusions, or more damningly, didn’t exist at all. At least seven of the cited sources were entirely fictitious, according to NOTUS. Another investigation by The Washington Post found that at least 37 of the 522 citations appeared multiple times throughout the report. Notably, the URLs of several references included “oaicite,” a marker that OpenAI applies to responses provided by artificial intelligence models like ChatGPT, which strongly suggests its use to develop the report Generative AI tools have a tendency to spit out false or incorrect information, known as “hallucinations.” That would certainly explain the various errors throughout the report — chatbots have been found responsible for similar citation issues in legal filings submitted by AI experts and even the companies building the models. Nevertheless, RFK Jr has long advocated for the “AI Revolution,” and announced during a House Committee meeting in May that “we are already using these new technologies to manage health care data more efficiently and securely.”; US-Regierung zitiert nicht existierende Studien Laut Medienrecherchen wurden in einem Bericht zu Gesundheitsproblemen von Kindern erfundene Quellen zitiert.

So long, Elon: the cuts didn’t go to plan, but you completely shredded your reputation

I can’t believe that Elon Musk is leaving Doge, the government department he named after a tired and basic meme that most of the internet had moved on from around a decade ago. “As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end,” Musk wrote this week (capital letters: model’s own), “I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful government spending.” Oh man. “Thank you for the opportunity”?! At some level you have to salute Donald Trump’s ability to turn even the world’s richest man into an Apprentice candidate who leaves in week four after completely wiping out in the hotdog stand task. Musk arrived in government promising to slash spending by $2tn. He leaves it a mere $1.86tn short of that target, even by his own estimations. Meanwhile, the president’s new tax bill is set to add $2.3tn to the deficit. I imagine Musk thought his government finale would be a spectacular extravaganza – “you’re welcome, Washington!” – involving 2,000 chainsaw-wielding chorus girls. Instead, it’s a tweet. And yes – we DO all still call them tweets. Ironically, the thing that Musk has been most stunningly effective at slashing is his own reputation. Think about it. He arrived in Trump’s orbit as a somewhat mysterious man, widely regarded as a tech genius, and a titan of the age. He leaves it with vast numbers of people woken up to the fact he’s a weird and creepy breeding fetishist, who desperately pretends to be good at video games, and wasn’t remotely as key to SpaceX or Tesla’s engineering prowess as they’d vaguely thought. Also, with a number of them apparently convinced he had a botched penile implant. Rightly or wrongly convinced – sure. I’m just asking questions.

Dozens of European politicians vow to attend Budapest Pride despite ban on LGBTQ gatherings in Hungary

At least 70 members of the European Parliament are planning on attending this year’s Pride celebrations in Budapest, Hungary, despite the nation’s ban against LGBTQ gatherings, officials have told CNN. Earlier this year, Hungarian lawmakers passed new legislation which outlaws Pride events in the country and allows authorities to use facial recognition technology to identify those attending any events that go ahead despite the ban. But officials from at least six groups of the European Parliament are planning on attending Budapest’s annual Pride march anyway, according to a spokesperson for Kim van Sparrentak, the co-president of the European Union’s Intergroup. The Intergroup describes itself as an “informal forum for Members of the European Parliament (MEPS) who wish to advance and protect the fundamental rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people.” Budapest Pride has remained determined in the face of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and his government, which has previously said it is outlawing the parade and other LGBTQ gatherings in the country due to “child protection” issues.

House Democrat launches investigation of Trump’s meme coin dinner

Rep. Jamie Raskin demanded a detailed list of the dinner guests and the sources of the funds they used to buy the cryptocurrencies. A top House Democrat on Wednesday night opened a probe into the private dinner that President Donald Trump hosted for top investors in his meme coin, seeking to highlight the ethical and legal concerns raised by the president’s willingness to profit while in office. Rep. Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, demanded Trump turn over the names of the guests who attended last week’s gala after pouring millions of dollars into the president’s crypto venture. The Maryland congressman also pressed the president to disclose what steps he used to determine the source of the funds used to purchase the meme coin, citing concerns that some of the money could have come from foreign governments seeking to influence the White House. “Publication of this list will also let the American people know who is putting tens of millions of dollars into our President’s pocket so we can start to figure out what — beyond virtually worthless memecoins — they are getting in exchange for all this money,” Raskin wrote in a letter, which was first reported by The Washington Post. Ethics experts and Trump’s political opponents say the meme coin dinner was the starkest example to date of Trump’s willingness to blur the lines between his for-profit business interests and his office. (…) On Tuesday, Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social, said it planned to raise $2.5 billion from about 50 investors to purchase Bitcoin. Trump launched his $TRUMP meme coins days before he was sworn in. Meme coins are novelty digital currencies, often named for online jokes, that tend to show wild swings in price and “have limited or no use or functionality,” the Securities and Exchange Commission said in February. An affiliate of Trump’s family business, the Trump Organization, operates the meme coin alongside a Delaware-registered company called Fight Fight Fight, run by longtime Trump ally Bill Zanker. Together, the two groups own 80 percent of the 1 billion Trump coins. In April, the Trump-affiliated business announced that the 220 top holders of the meme coin would be rewarded with a “night to remember” at his golf club in Virginia. Since the coin’s debut, Trump-affiliated businesses have received $312 million from crypto sales and $43 million in total fees, according to a Post analysis of data through mid-May. At the same time, the White House has sought to limit regulation of digital assets and pursued policies intended to legitimize cryptocurrencies, potentially increasing their value. Vice President JD Vance and Trump’s sons spoke at a Las Vegas gathering of bitcoin investors on Wednesday.

The Risky ‘Side Launch’ That Doomed Kim Jong Un’s New Warship – #oups

The unconventional technique for launching big military vessels points to North Korea’s haste in modernizing its outdated navy and lack of resources. A week ago, Kim Jong Un traveled to North Korea’s “City of Iron,” home to a major industrial shipyard where a hulking warship awaited him. A VIP podium had been erected alongside the port for the vessel’s launch. Officials waited in anticipation. But the moment of celebration turned into calamity.  The 5,000-ton destroyer lost its balance as it lurched into the water, toppling over and embarrassing Kim, who seeks to modernize his Soviet-era naval fleet. Four North Korean officials have been detained over the mishap, according to state media, which called it an “unpardonable crime.” What has become clearer in the aftermath is how an unconventional choice of launch method, Kim’s rushed timetable and a top-heavy warship overladen with weapons systems was a recipe for disaster, according to satellite-imagery analysis, naval experts and North Korea’s official statements
