Investigators have identified the suspects involved in a reported bomb threat made to Marion High School in August. Marion Chief of Police David Fitts said through a collaboration between the Marion Police Department, the New York State Police and the Washington County Sheriff’s Department in Maryland, two suspects were identified in connection with the August 14 incident: a 13-year-old juvenile from New York State and an 18-year-old from Maryland. Chief Fitts said these suspects are part of an online group known as 764’s. “The 764 online group is a loosely organized, violent online extremist network associated with the exploitation, coercion and abuse of minors and other vulnerable individuals,” he explained. “It is often described by law enforcement as part of a broader phenomenon known as violent online networks or nihilistic violent extremism.” Fitts said the group operates primarily through internet-based platforms and doesn’t have a formal hierarchy or centralized leadership.
