Youth’s ‘mass murder scheme’

A vul­ner­able young man was groomed and rad­ic­al­ised by inter­na­tional neo-nazi ter­ror­ist groups before he allegedly attemp­ted to “recruit and instruct oth­ers” to com­mit mass murder – all from his par­ents’ NSW North Coast home. Sam Bolton, 20, was charged after a major invest­ig­a­tion that allegedly revealed he had been brain­washed by US and Brit­ish­based white suprem­acist organ­isa­tions via online for­ums and video games. Doc­u­ments tendered in Mur­wil­lum­bah Local Court allege Bolton was lured by the National Social­ist Order, a Flor­ida­based neo-nazi group whose founder, Brandon Rus­sell, was sen­tenced to 20 years’ jail for plot­ting to blow up a power grid. The group, pre­vi­ously known as Atom­waf­fen Divi­sion, is defined as a ter­ror­ist group under Aus­tralian law. Bolton allegedly was influ­enced by UK-based neo-nazi group Sonnen­krieg Divi­sion, whose mem­bers have been jailed for pre­par­ing ter­ror­ist acts and plot­ting a 2019 attack on mem­bers of the royal fam­ily, court doc­u­ments said. On June 14, counter-ter­ror­ism police received a report Bolton was allegedly oper­at­ing under the user­name “Thekriegcon­tin­ues” on an online forum ded­ic­ated to “dis­cuss­ing and post­ing uned­ited graphic videos of real-world viol­ence”. Invest­ig­at­ors allegedly found nazi and KKK flags and 129 hand-drawn extrem­ist sym­bols dec­or­at­ing his bed­room along with a shrine ded­ic­ated to the white suprem­acist move­ment.
