Last week, FOX13 shared shocking warnings from the FBI and Marshall County Sheriff’s Office about a neo-nazi satanist terror group called “764” that is targeting children through the Internet. Following those warnings, an expert is weighing in. Luke Baumgartner, a researcher at George Washington University’s Program on Extremism, told FOX13 764 was first discovered in 2021 and has since popped up around the country. “The ultimate goal for them is that no one is safe from these acts of violence or these acts of abuse,” Baumgartner said. Baumgartner and his team track extremist groups across the political spectrum and from all ideological backgrounds. 764 is part of a wider trend of online extremism, which are especially concerning because they are easy to join and difficult to track. “There is no way to know for sure how many people are actively involved in committing these crimes,” he said. “What I can tell you, based on recent press releases and comments by the FBI, they have more than 250 active investigations into 764, and the investigations are present at all 55 of their field offices.” Baumgartner says 764 members befriend children through online games like Roblox and Minecraft, then move the conversation to other apps like Snapchat or Discord. There, members convince children to share sexual pictures or videos and use the content to blackmail them into hurting themselves, friends, family members and even pets. “Murder, animal abuse and bestiality,” Baumgartner said. “Activities that defy normal, moral ethics.”
