Police are investigating after a Scottish Defence League demonstration in Edinburgh saw marchers display flags of a proscribed paramilitary group and banners for sanctioned neo-nazi organisations. AScottish Defence League (SDL) march through Edinburgh city centre on 15 August, at the height of the tourist season, included the sight of demonstrators displaying the flag of the proscribed terrorist organistions, the Ulster Defence Association and the Ulster Freedom Fighters. There were also banners of the sanctioned neo-nazi groups Combat 18 and Blood and Honour. Cover name The Ulster Freedom Fighters (UFF) was banned in November 1973, after being used as a cover name by UDA to claim attacks. The UDA itself remained legal for nearly two decades afterward, despite being widely known as the parent organisation behind the UFF’s killings.
