Counter-terrorism police allege a reclusive young man built a neo-Nazi shrine in his bedroom while secretly instructing others online on how to maximise casualties in mass murder attacks. A vulnerable young man was groomed and radicalised by international neo-Nazi terrorist groups before he allegedly attempted to “recruit and instruct others” to commit mass murder – all from inside his parents’ north coast home. In a case that illustrates the terrifying new wave of online recruitment, Sam Bolton was charged following a major terrorism investigation that allegedly revealed the reclusive 20-year-old had been brainwashed by US and UK-based white supremacist organisations via online forums and video games. Court documents tendered in Murwillumbah Local Court revealed Bolton was allegedly seduced by the National Socialist Order, the Florida-based neo-Nazi group whose founder, Brandon Russell, was sentenced to 20 years in jail for plotting to blow up a power grid. The group was previously known as Atomwaffen Division and is defined as a terrorist group under Australian law. Bolton was also allegedly influenced by UK-based neo-Nazi group Sonnenkrieg Division, whose members have been jailed for preparing terrorist acts and plotting a 2019 attack on members of the Royal Family, the documents said.
