An investigation has been launched after a Nazi flag was seen flying in Donegal last month. The flag was flown in Kilmacrennan on April 16 and although it is understood that it was taken down, footage appeared online. An Garda Síochána have confirmed the incident is being investigated but say they refuse to comment on material posted online. But they are encouraging anyone who is a victim of hate crime to come forward, and say they are engaging with the Jewish community throughout the island. The flag has a swastika on it and is red and black. A Garda spokesperson said: “An Garda Síochána does not comment on material posted online by third parties. “Gardaí are investigating an incident in Kilmacrennan, Co Donegal on 16th April 2026. “An Garda Síochána continues to encourage any victim of any crime to report this to An Garda Síochána including any indication that the crime may have a hate motivation. “An Garda Síochána takes hate-related crime very seriously.  Any potential hate related crime reported to An Garda Síochána t is professionally investigated. “The increase in reporting of such incidents has been noted in each year of reporting, which is positive. “An Garda Síochána also has an extensive network of nearly 600 trained Garda Diversity Officers who can engage with communities and individuals on a daily basis to provide them with re-assurance and address issues of concern for them. “Gardaí from the Garda National Community Engagement Bureau have a good relationship and engage with the Jewish community throughout Ireland on an ongoing basis and continue to liaise with the Jewish community at this time.
