Two groups planned to pit fighters against each other in bare-knuckle bouts in Helsinki. Police in Helsinki say they will ban a planned MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) event in the capital this Saturday. Tabloid Iltalehti reported on Monday that a neo-Nazi group and a street gang planned to pit fighters against each other in bare-knuckle bouts. Omos “Opa” Oko, a promoter of the event, told Iltalehti that the event is “a great way to bring the two extremes together”. Helsinki police, however, did not agree. Chief Superintendent Heikki Porola told Yle that police have the power to prevent events going ahead if they pose a potential risk to people’s health, under the terms of Finland’s Assembly Act.
