A white supremacist from Tennessee is accused of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction to attack an energy facility in Nashville according to the Department of Justice (DOJ). The DOJ reports 24-year-old Skyler Philippi of Columbia, Tennessee was stopped thanks to the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The DOJ states in June of this year, Philippi told a confidential human source he wanted to commit a mass shooting at a YMCA in or around Columbia and then in July stated to another confidential human source an attack on an interstate substations would “shock the system.” His plan, per the DOJ, was to use a drone carrying explosives and crash it into a substation. In September, undercover employees of the FBI drove with Philippi to conduct reconnaissance on the substation and ordered explosives and C-4 from the undercover employees. He also separately purchased black powder which he planned to use in the attack.

Skyler Philippi, 24, was arrested on 2 November on charges of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to destroy an energy facility. Authorities claim that Philippi’s plot was rooted in his “accelerationism”, or the white supremacist belief that “the existing state of society is irreparable and that the only solution is the destruction and collapse of the ‘system’”, according to court documents. Court documents add that adherents to accelerationism believe that “steps can be taken to speed up the collapse of the system, to wit: the destruction of the US power grid, among other acts of violence”.
