Lynch, who was jailed for two years after joining violent protests outside an asylum seekers’ hotel in Rotherham, is believed to have taken his own life A grandfather who was jailed over his involvement in the anti-immigration riots this summer has died in prison. Peter Lynch, 61, was sentenced to two years and eight months for screaming at police who were protecting a hotel housing asylum seekers in Rotherham. Lynch suffered from diabetes, thyroid issues and angina, and had recently had a heart attack. He died on Saturday at HMP Moorland near Doncaster in south Yorkshire. The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman is investigating. Lynch received a prison sentence on August 22 after pleading guilty to violent disorder in a hearing at Sheffield crown court. He was filmed repeatedly challenging officers as they tried to push him back with shields, screaming “protect my children” and yelling: “We are on the streets now to protect our kids”. (…) His relative Lewis Lynch, 30, a machine operator who had been married for three months, was jailed for two years and eight months in August for his involvement in five different incidents at the same riot. He had confronted police officers “in a particularly violent fashion” and “rocked and shook” a police vehicle, Sheffield crown court heard. He also joined a crowd that breached a fire door of the hotel and was seen carrying chairs and fire extinguishers out of the premises.
