White power inmates on the rise in New Zealand prisons

An expert on far-right extremism says it is unlikely the prison sentence for a man who distributed the video of the mosque massacre will be a deterrent to other white supremacists. White supremacist inmates are a rising force in Kiwi prisons, new figures show. Their strongholds are at Christchurch Prison and Otago Corrections Facility. There were 81 prisoners with white power gang affiliations as of June 30 – up from 53 in 2015 and 71 in 2017, according to information gleaned via the Official Information Act. They belong to groups including White Power, White Power Creed, National Front, Right Wing Resistance, 4th Reich, Skinheads, Chaos Skins, Rodent Aryan Brotherhood, Crew 38 and the Ruthless Boot Boys.
