Innenministerium kündigt Konsequenzen gegen AfD-Landrat an

Das Thüringer Innenministerium hat eine Sanktion gegen den Landrat Sonnebergs, Robert Sesselmann (AfD), angekündigt, nachdem dieser in einem Video zur Wahl seiner Partei aufgerufen hat. «Der Sachverhalt wird jetzt durch die Rechtsaufsicht ernsthaft geprüft und Konsequenzen haben», sagt ein Sprecher des Ministeriums. Zuständig für diese Prüfung sei das Landesverwaltungsamt. Hintergrund der Ankündigung ist ein Video, das seit kurzem von Sesselmann im Internet kursiert. Darin gibt Sesselmann eine Wahlempfehlung zugunsten eines Südthüringer AfD-Landtagskandidaten beziehungsweise der AfD ab. «Und deshalb kann ich Ihnen nur empfehlen – als Landrat des Landkreises Sonneberg – wählen Sie richtig, wählen Sie mit Ihrer Stimme für den Kandidaten Jürgen Treutler und mit der Zweitstimme AfD, das ist die einzig vernünftige, richtige Wahl, die Sie am 1.9. treffen können.» Auch Treutler selbst hat das Video bei Facebook veröffentlicht. Landräte sind zur parteipolitischen Neutralität verpflichtet, wenn sie sich als solche äußern.

LG Erfurt erlässt einstweilige Verfügung – AfD muss Jour­na­listen zur Wahl­party zulassen

Die AfD Thüringen wollte nur einen kleinen Kreis ausgewählter Journalisten bei ihrer Wahlparty dabeihaben. Dagegen zogen mehrere Medienhäuser mit Erfolg vor das LG Erfurt, das schon einen Tag später über den Eilantrag entschied. Am 1. September wählen die Thüringerinnen und Thüringer einen neuen Landtag. Die AfD geht mit Spitzenkandidat Björn Höcke ins Rennen. In jüngeren Umfragen steht die Partei auf Platz eins mit Werten um die 30 Prozent. Grund genug, um nach der Wahl eine Wahlparty zu veranstalten, wie es bei den Parteien so üblich ist. Zu ihrer Wahlparty wollte die AfD Thüringen allerdings nur einen ausgewählten Kreis an Journalistinnen und Journalisten zulassen. Gegenüber der dpa begründete die AfD dies damit, man habe nicht genügend Platz für alle. Es seien bereits 50 Plätze für Journalisten vorgesehen, die seien belegt.  Journalisten des Magazins Der Spiegel, der Springer-Marken Bild und Welt sowie der taz wollten sich auch für die Wahlparty akkreditieren, ihre Anträge wurden aber abgelehnt. Deshalb hatten sie am Mittwoch beim Landgericht (LG) Erfurt einen Eilantrag gegen die AfD Thüringen gestellt. Vertreten wurden sie dabei von Rechtsanwalt Dr. Christoph Partsch. Generell ist umstritten, ob und aus welcher Rechtsgrundlage Journalisten einen Anspruch auf Teilnahme an Parteiveranstaltungen herleiten können. Der Eilantrag stützte sich schlicht auf die Meinungsfreiheit aus Art. 5 GG i.V.m. dem Gleichheitsgrundsatz aus Art. 3 GG, wie Partsch gegenüber LTO berichtet. Bereits am Donnerstag hat das LG – wegen Dringlichkeit nach § 937 Zivilprozessordnung ohne mündliche Verhandlung – die beantragte einstweilige Verfügung erlassen: Die AfD Thüringen muss den Antragstellern demnach in gleichem Umfang wie anderen Medienvertretern Zugang zur Wahlparty gewähren. Insbesondere muss sie wie beantragt jeweils einen Journalisten der Redaktionen Bild und Welt zulassen. Für jeden Fall der Zuwiderhandlung wird gegenüber dem AfD-Vorstand, bestehend aus Björn Höcke und Stefan Möller, ein Ordnungsgeld in Höhe von bis zu 250.000 Euro, ersatzweise Ordnungshaft angedroht (Beschl. v. 22.08.2024, Az. 9 O 941/24).

Donald Trump Accused of Committing ‘Massive Crime’ With Reported Phone Call

Donald Trump has been accused of violating federal law by allegedly calling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the ceasefire deal the U.S. is helping negotiate between Israel and Hamas. The former president allegedly made the call on August 14, according to Axios, which cited two unnamed “U.S. sources who were briefed on the call.” The next day, however, Netanyahu’s office denied that the call took place. In a statement quoted by The Times of Israel, a spokesperson said: “Contrary to media reports, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not speak yesterday with former President Donald Trump.” It is unclear if a call between Trump and Netanyahu took place and Newsweek has contacted representatives of the former president for comment. The Logan Act If Trump did make the call, he would potentially be breaking the law as the Logan Act, enacted in 1799, prohibits unauthorized private citizens from negotiating with foreign governments on behalf of the U.S. American Muckrakers, an organization that states it seeks to hold politicians and officials accountable, has filed a request with the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of State.

The investigation reportedly is looking into the trafficking of minors and sexual intercourse with a minor. Tate, a self-described misogynist and influencer, is already facing accusations of human trafficking. Romanian law enforcement officials Wednesday searched four homes belonging to Andrew Tate as part of a new investigation into the self-described misogynist influencer and his brother, Tristan, according to multiple reports. Romania’s DIICOT, the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism, said in a press release — which didn’t name the Tate brothers — that the raids were related to forming an organized criminal group, trafficking of minors, sexual intercourse with a minor, influencing statements, and money laundering. The searches involved four homes in Bucharest and Ilfov county, according to the agency. (…) Tate and his brother, Tristan, were first arrested in 2022 in Romania alongside two Romanian women, the AP reports, and they were formally indicted last year. They have denied previous allegations of human trafficking, rape, and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women. In March, the brothers were detained in Romania over a UK arrest warrant on sexual crime charges dating back to between 2012 and 2015.

Attorney for far-right Oath Keepers extremist group pleads guilty to Capitol riot charges

An attorney who represented the far-right Oath Keepers pleaded guilty on Wednesday to charges stemming from a mob’s Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, including members of the extremist group. Kellye SoRelle, who was general counsel for the antigovernment group and a close associate of its founder, is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 17 by U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta in Washington, D.C. SoRelle, 45, of Granbury, Texas, answered routine questions by the judge as she pleaded guilty to two charges: a felony count of obstructing justice and a misdemeanor count of entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds. The felony carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years, but her estimated sentencing guidelines recommend a maximum of 16 months behind bars.

Organized Vigilantism: AP3 has already sought to shape American life through armed vigilante operations — at the Texas border, outside ballot boxes and during Black Lives Matter protests. Close Ties With Police: AP3 leaders have forged alliances with law enforcement around the U.S. Internal files reveal their strategies for building these ties and where they’ve claimed success. Groups such as the Proud Boys had plotted to prevent the transfer of power from Trump to Joe Biden. Media coverage since has centered on the prosecutions of participants, with hundreds of rioters sent to prison. But despite the riot and its fallout, militias are far from extinct. Vierfachmord im Landkreis Rotenburg: Soldat vor Gericht

Ein Soldat soll vier Menschen im Landkreis Rotenburg erschossen haben, darunter ein Kleinkind. Hintergrund soll die Trennung von seiner Frau gewesen sein. Zum Prozessbeginn wurde die Anklage verlesen. Der zum Tatzeitpunkt 32-Jährige ist wegen vierfachen Mordes angeklagt, laut Staatsanwaltschaft Verden soll er aus Rache und Hass getötet haben. Der Verdächtige und dessen Frau hatten sich demnach vor der Tat getrennt, die Frau soll einen neuen Freund gehabt haben. Die Opfer stammten den Angaben zufolge alle aus dem Umfeld der Ex-Partnerin des Verdächtigen. Die Anklage zieht eine Forderung nach einer Sicherungsverwahrung in Betracht, wie ein Sprecher des Landgerichts Verden bestätigte. Der Angeklagte wolle sich möglicherweise im Oktober vor Gericht zu den Vorwürfen äußern, teilte seine Verteidigerin am Mittwoch mit. Auch die Aussage eines Gutachters wird dann erwartet. Für den Prozess sind zunächst 35 Verhandlungstage bis Ende März 2025 angesetzt.
