Cyber-Angriff auf CDU – Verfassungsschutz eingeschaltet

Nach der SPD ist auch die CDU jetzt digital angegriffen worden. Die Behörden nehmen den Vorfall “sehr ernst”. Alles deute auf einen professionellen Akteur hin. Eine Woche vor der Europawahl ist die CDU Opfer einer Cyber-Attacke geworden. Man nehme den Vorfall sehr ernst, hieß es am Samstag aus Regierungskreisen. Das Innenministerium bestätigte einen schwerwiegenden Cyber-Angriff auf das Netzwerk der Partei. Zum Ausmaß des Schadens oder zum Angreifer könne wegen der laufenden Ermittlungen nichts gesagt werden. “Die Art des Vorgehens deutet aber auf einen sehr professionellen Akteur hin”, erklärte ein Sprecher. Ob sensible Daten betroffen waren, blieb zunächst unklar. Eine CDU-Sprecherin teilte mit: “Die IT-Infrastruktur wurde als Vorsichtsmaßnahme in Teilen vom Netz genommen und isoliert.” (…) Die CDU erklärte, sie arbeite nun eng mit deutschen Sicherheitsbehörden und weiteren externen Sicherheitsexperten zusammen. Der Verfassungsschutz und das Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik hätten Ermittlungen aufgenommen. Verfassungsschutz warnt Parteien Das Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz werde noch am Samstag eine Warnung an alle Parteien des Deutschen Bundestages herausgeben, erklärte der Sprecher des Innenministeriums. “Unsere Sicherheitsbehörden haben alle Schutzmaßnahmen gegen digitale und hybride Bedrohungen hochgefahren und klären zu Gefahren auf. Wir sehen erneut, wie notwendig dies gerade vor Wahlen ist.”

Elections are battlefields for the Kremlin: Flooding the information space

From 6-9 June, the next elections to the European Parliament(opens in a new tab) will take place across EU Member States in the largest European democratic exercise for hundreds of millions of people. These elections will give a mandate to the European Parliament for the next five years. In this series of articles, we show examples of key tactics, techniques, and procedures employed by pro-Kremlin manipulators and disinformers targeting the European Parliament elections. We examine attempts to smear leaders; sow distrust, doubt, and division; flood social media with falsehoods; turn the public against Ukraine; and project Russia’s own shortcomings onto the EU to distract from the reality of Putin’s Russia. We will also follow how the election results are portrayed by the pro-Kremlin disinformation ecosystem. Stay tuned! In the first article, we analysed the technique of smearing prominent political leaders by inventing scandals, twisting or taking things out of context, or posing as ‘doppelgangers’ to clone or hijack their online identities to lure target audiences. A second technique is closely associated with the first: sowing discontent, doubt, and division. The second article looked at attempts to foment discontent inside EU Member States, exploit existing political issues, and erode the credibility of the EU system. We have documented increasing attempts by Russian state-sponsored and pro-Kremlin outlets targeting the EU to influence(opens in a new tab) public discussions. Technique no. 3: flood information spaces with falsehoods to turn the public against Ukraine The tactic of flooding the information space seeks to push aside quality content and illustrates how Russian authorities try to manipulate and influence the public agenda across the EU. This technique is also sometimes described as a ‘firehose of falsehoods(opens in a new tab)’ because it seeks to dominate the information environment with an overabundance of misleading, false, and manipulative narratives. An Arizona guardswoman and high school teacher was exposed as a neo-Nazi

An Army National Guardswoman and part-time band instructor for Mountain Ridge High School was outed this week for her involvement in the local neo-Nazi and white nationalist scene.  Left Coast Right Watch first reported on Ashley Drago’s marriage to David Ryan Drake, who was convicted of manslaughter in 2007 for a racial motivated stabbing. After being released from prison and finding it difficult to maintain employment because his name was easily tied to his neo-Nazi beliefs, he legally changed it to Aleksander Drago. The Dragos are both allegedly involved in a local neo-Nazi club that is part of a larger network of extremist organizations aimed at recruiting younger men. These “active clubs” have harassed the LGBTQ+ community and spread antisemitism. (…) Ashley Drago is a member of the Arizona Army National Guard, where she plays saxophone for the 108th Army Band and has been pictured in Instagram photos posted by the Army. The band was slated to perform for Gov. Katie Hobbs earlier this week at a Memorial Day service; the Governor’s Office declined to comment if she was a part of the service. (…) Ashley Drago appears to be behind a Telegram account associated with the Arizona active club that pushes “TradWife” beliefs. The TradWife Movement aims to instill ideas of the 1950s housewife, but have many beliefs that are rooted in white supremacist ideology.  LCRW found that she can be seen in multiple posts made by the account.  The account has made references to white nationalist talking points and made antisemitic comments while posting symbols used by neo-Nazis.  Photos of Ashley Drago appear in numerous photos of the 108th Army Band including one of her wedding overseen and attended by white supremacists.

The multiple Tribal Arya Society and TAC-AZ Telegram, Gab and Twitter accounts would attempt to obscure the faces of members at these meetups, but several of those same photos were unblurred on Asatru Folk Assembly’s social media. (…) While Active Clubs are normally exclusive to men, TAC-AZ footage often features a woman working out and dropping racist propaganda alongside the group. The woman also appears in photos and videos on Tribal Arya Society’s social media and two other Telegram accounts: “TheModernTradwife” and “ModernTradwife.”  In multiple posts on those accounts in which the woman’s identity is obscured, she has a similar build, clothing and hairstyle as Ashley June Drago (née Krogstad). In other posts, however, Ashley Drago could be seen with little to no attempt to hide her identity. In one video posted by ModernTradwife, Ashley Drago raises up a drinking horn as the text overlaid reads “Embrace Tradition.” This is from a TAC-AZ outing that was censored on their own account. “Wholesome Midwest childhood” the caption of one photo reads. “First post flashback. ‘Tis yours truly.” “Anonymous reveal,” reads another image shared to TheModernTradwife. Though her face is censored in this post, the unique wallpaper behind Ashley Drago matches the wallpaper in her husband’s work bio photo. In a video celebrating Oktoberfest in Tempe, Arizona, the woman is blurred but no attempt was made to obscure Ryan Drago’s face, who has his arm around her. (…) Ashley Drago appears in numerous photos on the 108th Army Band’s instagram and Facebook page, including in an image from her white supremacist “handfasting” wedding ceremony. Her uniform displays her married name: “Drago.”  On February 5, 2024, a post on the 108th Army Band social media announced she had been promoted to sergeant.

“L’Amour Toujours”: Fast 30 Fälle in Niedersachsen polizeibekannt

Seit dem Eklat auf Sylt sind auch in Niedersachsen viele Fälle von rassistischen Parolen zur Melodie des Partyhits “L’Amour Toujours” bekannt geworden. Das LKA nennt auf NDR Anfrage konkrete Zahlen. Bis Ende Mai seien landesweit 28 Fälle polizeilich bekannt geworden, in denen der Liedtext von “L’Amour Toujours” ausländerfeindlich umgedichtet wurde, teilte eine Sprecherin des LKA Niedersachsen auf NDR Anfrage mit (Stand: 28. Mai 2024). Insbesondere im Mai seien die Fallzahlen steil nach oben geschossen: Allein in diesem Monat seien etwa die Hälfte der 28 Fälle von der Polizei erfasst worden. Die Zahl könne noch höher ausfallen, so die Sprecherin, etwa durch nachträgliche Veröffentlichungen von Video- oder Audioaufnahmen in sozialen Netzwerken. Das Phänomen werde gerade durch die sozialen Netzwerke immer bekannter, so die LKA-Sprecherin. Erstmalig aufgetreten seien ausländerfeindliche Umdichtungen des Originaltextes des Liedes von Gigi D’Agostino im November 2023, so die Sprecherin. Das LKA hat die Zahlen auf Basis von Meldungen und Verlaufsberichten der Polizeibehörden erstellt (…) In Niedersachsen ermittelt mittlerweile in mehreren Fällen der Staatsschutz. Innenministerin Daniela Behrens hatte sich am Montag für Konsequenzen ausgesprochen. Es sei wichtig, die Täterinnen und Täter nicht nur zu identifizieren, sondern sie auch zu bestrafen, sagte die SPD-Politikerin. Die Verbreitung dieses “widerlichen Gedankengutes” sei kein harmloser Partyspaß. “Wir nehmen diese Entwicklung nicht länger hin und lassen die Gegner unserer Demokratie und unserer freiheitlich demokratischen Grundordnung nicht einfach gewähren.” Behrens zeigte sich dabei bestürzt über die rassistischen Parolen, die zu einem harmlosen Lied gesungen werden, “ohne dass in der unmittelbaren Umgebung jemand einschreitet und diesem Treiben ein Ende setzt”.

Göttinger Staatsanwaltschaft: Tatverdächtiger zeigte Hakenkreuz im Profilbild bei Whatsapp Dem Mann wurde damals nach Angaben von Buick zur Last gelegt, in seinem Whatsapp-Profilbild einen Reichsadler mit Hakenkreuz im Eichenkranz gezeigt zu haben (…) Die Straftat des Mannes war im Zusammenhang mit einem anderen Verfahren gegen ihn aufgefallen, wie Oberstaatsanwalt Buick weiter berichtete. Demnach hatte eine Frau gegen den 66-Jährigen eine Strafanzeige wegen Beleidigung gestellt.

A New Generation Of Far-Rightists Has Emerged In Russia, Attacking Migrants Against The Backdrop Of The Invasion Of Ukraine, Filming Their Attacks On Video And Publishing Them On Telegram. A new generation of far-rightists has emerged in Russia, attacking migrants against the backdrop of the invasion of Ukraine, filming their attacks on video and publishing them on Telegram. Gennady, a participant in the Nazi Video Monitoring Project (NVMP), a project to monitor videos of attacks neo-nazis have published themselves, told Antifascist Europe how Nazi skinheads have returned to Russia, what their attitude to the war in Ukraine is, and how the media influences neo-Nazi content. How did the idea of NVMP come about in the first place?  In the summer of 2023, the number of attack videos in far-right channels on the messenger Telegram increased dramatically. Earlier, attack videos were released monthly; now, they publish new videos weekly. It became clear that a new socio-political phenomenon was taking shape, so we came up with the idea of counting these videos so that we could operate with concrete figures that researchers, human rights activists, and journalists could refer to. (…) A recent report by Russia’s oldest monitoring center, Sova, also speaks of the emergence of a new generation of far-right activists, but it stresses that their attitude to the events in Ukraine is unknown. Do you agree with this?  If we take the key channels distributing the video, there is a clear pro-Ukrainian stance. On the one hand, they do not accept hatred towards Russians. On the other hand, they support the idea of the brotherhood of all white people and first of all, Slavs. They consider Putin’s regime as the main culprit of discord between them. This protest subculture is formed through the denial of the existing regime and the desire for an eschatological RaHoWa. Despite the war, the Russian far-right is on good terms with the far-right from Belarus and Ukraine. Occasionally, clips from these two states, as well as from the Baltic states and Georgia, appear on Russian channels. Why do far-right activists publish their content on Telegram? The fact that Telegram is a safe platform for the far-right in Russia, Western Europe, and the United States is a long-known fact. This is the principled position of Telegram’s founder, Russian IT entrepreneur Pavel Durov, a well-known libertarian who only bans channels with extremist content under tremendous pressure. The messenger’s rules prohibit the distribution of calls for violence and violent videos in open channels, but this rule does not work in closed groups. Thus, Telegram has become a platform for a far-right environment that is entirely built around the aestheticization of violence. On Telegram, a full-fledged far-right subculture was formed, which functions in the environment of closed channels. It should also be noted that the Russian authorities banned Meta’s social networks, after which Telegram’s audience began to grow, not only as a messenger but as a platform for distributing news and content.
