The killer has been named as David Kozak, a student at the university who is suspected of killing a father and daughter last week The popular tourist destination of Prague has been left reeling after a lone gunman opened fire on students at a top university, in what has become the country’s worst mass shooting. Social media videos captured the panic that broke out on Thursday afternoon at Charles University in the city centre, with tourists taking cover and a group of desperate students clinging to a building ledge in a bid to save their lives. Czech police raced to the scene of the shooting at Jan Palach Square shortly after 3pm, and were confronted with the horrifying reality that 13 people had been killed, with the gunman taking his own life shortly afterwards. The gunman, who has been named as 24-year-old David Kozak, killed himself after attempting to hide in a gallery and being followed to the roof. Described as an excellent student with no previous criminal convictions, it has since emerged that Kozak is suspected to be responsible for the death of his father, and the fatal shooting of a man and his two-month-old daughter in a woodland area last week. David Kozak has been identified as the gunman (Czech Police) Ahead of the mass shooting at Charles University, he is thought to have kept a diary in Russian on messaging app Telegram, writing: “I want to do a school shooting and possibly suicide.” Among those that have been injured, 10 of them are in a serious condition, Prague‘s Police Chief Martin Vondrasek told reporters.

A STUDENT who massacred 13 people in a horror gun rampage in Prague was reportedly obsessed with a Russian schoolgirl shooter. David Kozak, 24, opened fire with a sniper rifle at a university in the Czech capital on Thursday afternoon – a week after allegedly murdering a dad and a newborn baby. He has been described by neighbours as a “nerd” who was fascinated with weapons. And Telegram posts appeared to reveal Kozak’s chilling plans to “do a school shooting and possibly suicide” – inspired by a school shooting in Bryansk, western Russia, on December 7. Alina Afanaskina, 14, shot a student and wounded five others before turning the gun on herself. “Alina Afanaskina helped me too much,” Kozak, a Russian speaker, said in his Telegram messages. “I always wanted to kill, I thought I would become a maniac in the future. “I realised that it was much more profitable to do mass murders rather than serial ones. I sat. Waited. Dreamed. “But Alina became the last point. It was as if she had come to my aid from heaven just in time.” He often posted about his “miserable life” and said he “always wanted to kill someone”; Prague shooting: Everything we know about David Kozak as link to Russian Telegram is made Czech authorities are probing a possible link between the gunman and a series of Russian language messages posted on social media app Telegram. Czech authorities are probing whether mass Russian shootings influenced David Kozak to carry out a massacre at a Prague university. They have found Russian language messages posted on the country’s social media app Telegram – and one indicates the attack may have been influenced by two previous mass shootings in Russia, reports The Independent. One of the shootings was this month at a school in Bryansk near the Ukraine border and the other took place in 2021 in Kazan.
