Hundreds engaged in violent clashes between alt-right and anti-police protesters on Saturday afternoon in downtown Portland. It marked the 86th day of demonstrations in the city. Demonstrators hurled rocks, fireworks, pepper spray and other items at each other. At least one person appeared to pull a gun in an incident that is now being investigated. Shocking video appeared to show a member of the Proud Boys punch a woman viciously to the ground. Yet police did not declare a riot despite admitting that the conditions were there. They said it appeared safer not to intervene as the crowds were ‘willingly engaging’ in violence and they did not have the manpower to deal with the large numbers.
