Six members of the skinhead subculture have been detained by the State Police for assaulting food delivery couriers of a different ethnicity. Two of the detainees were remanded in custody, police said. On July 31, the State Police detained persons in cooperation with the State Security Service (VDD). Two persons were remanded in custody on the same day and a decision on the security measures for the others will be taken today. Searches have also been carried out at several residences. According to the police, the detainees attacked and physically abused food delivery couriers of other ethnicities. The attacks were carried out because their subcultural ideology believes that only persons with white skin color should live in Latvia. Criminal proceedings have been initiated for an act aimed at inciting national, ethnic, racial, or religious hatred or hatred, if it involves violence or threats, or if it is committed by an organized group (Article 78(3) of the Criminal Law).
