The country stated that the Proud Boys’ involvement in the violent Capitol attack on Jan. 6, 2021 amounted to an act of terrorism. New Zealand’s government has declared that American far-right groups the Proud Boys and The Base are terrorist organizations. The two groups join 18 others including Islamic State that have been given an official terrorist designation, making it illegal in New Zealand to fund, recruit or participate in the groups, and obligating authorities to take action against them. The U.S. groups are not known to be active in New Zealand, although the South Pacific nation has become more attuned to threats from the far right after a white supremacist shot and killed 51 Muslim worshippers at two Christchurch mosques in 2019. The New Zealand massacre inspired other white supremacists around the world, including a white gunman who killed 10 Black people at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York. In the U.S., the State Department only lists foreign groups as terrorist entities. But the Proud Boys were last year named a terrorist group in Canada, while The Base has previously been declared a terrorist group in Britain, Canada and Australia. In a 29-page explanation of the Proud Boys designation published Thursday, New Zealand authorities said the group’s involvement in the violent attack on the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021 amounted to an act of terrorism. The statement said that while several militia groups were involved, it was the Proud Boys who incited crowds, coordinated attacks on law enforcement officers and led other rioters to where they could break into the building.

Two killed in the Ukraine Army’s International Legion may have been Neo-Nazis. THE DEATH OF a French volunteer in Ukraine is the first clear evidence that there are at least some far-right extremists among the foreign fighters who have flocked there to fight Russian forces. Wilfried Bleriot, 32, was killed in action, according to Ukraine’s International Legion in a Facebook post on June 4, 2022. In the photo of Bleriot posted by the International Legion, which was formed after Russia’s February invasion and is open to volunteer fighters from all over the world, he displays front and center on his body armor the black-and-white patch of the so-called Misanthropic Division, said to be an overtly fascist volunteer wing of Ukraine’s ultranationalist Azov Battalion. The Misanthropic Division’s violent, hate-filled Telegram channel was the first to announce Bleriot’s death, one day earlier, on June 3. The post said that he died on June 1 in Kharkiv and included a photo in which the thin and bearded Bleriot wears a T-shirt that says “Misanthropic Division” across the front. In 2018, the Los Angeles Times described the Misanthropic Division as “one of many neo-Nazi groups that have mushroomed throughout Ukraine in recent years.” In 2020, the Daily Beast characterized it as “the militant foreign volunteer wing of Ukraine’s neo-Nazi Azov Battalion.” The Guardian, in 2014, also said that the Misanthropic Division “is linked to the Azov battalion.” There are few other mentions of it in the news archive. Bleriot was a “man who fought bolshevism and antifascism all his life,” according to the Telegram post, a “brother-in-arms,” who died defending Europe and Ukraine from “Asiatic hordes.” Among members of the group chat, Bleriot has become a martyr, a fallen comrade to be mourned and celebrated. Unbekannte haben in der Nacht zu Donnerstag das Haus des AfD-Bundestagsabgeordneten Markus Frohnmaier in Weil der Stadt (Kreis Böblingen) mit Parolen aus roter Farbe beschmiert. Auf die beiden Garagen wurde “Fuck AfD” und “Scheiß Nazi” gesprüht und auf die Hauswand ein großer roter Fleck. Die Polizei nahm die Anzeige auf und übergab den Vorgang dem Staatsschutz, der sich mit politisch motivierte Kriminalität befasst, wie eine Sprecherin am Donnerstag sagte.

Der Jurastudent sei Schriftführer der „extrem rechten“ Werte-Union, schreibe für rechtslibertäre Medien wie „Tichys Einblick“ und interagiere in den Sozialen Medien mit Personen aus dem Umfeld der AfD und der „Identitären Bewegung“. Mit Corona befasse sich der 22 Jahre alte Student besonders intensiv, schreibt die Antifa weiter. Er engagiere sich in der Telegram-Gruppe von „Studenten stehen auf“, die gegen Coronaregeln agitiere, und gehe auf „Querdenken“- Demonstrationen. Zudem habe er für falsche Corona-Testzertifikate geworben, mit denen man während der Beschränkungen Zugang zur Universität hätte erlangen können.
